Losing my mind - Fosamax

Hi all I took my first (and last!) dose of Fosamax last Friday. I was assured that gastro side effects were very rare.

I've been in hell since Sunday with severe heartburn and stomach cramps that cause me to double over. By Tuesday I was unable to eat or drink anything without severe pain. My stomach feels full constantly even with nothing at all in it. When it isn't spasming (cramping?) there's a constant gnawing pain.

I finally broke down and went to urgent care yesterday after the prescribing doctor (rheumatologist) continually blew me off. They called in supplies for GI cocktail with lidocaine but it only works very temporarily. I've been using pepcid AC and pepto with very limited results. Today the acidy feeling is almost gone but the cramps are still severe. The rheumatologist finally agreed to call in Protonix today so I started that about an hour ago. I did manage to eat super watery oatmeal earlier and have tried small sips of Gatorade to try and stay hydrated. Plain, room temp water is *painful*

I have an appointment with a GI specialist on Tuesday but need help until then. My kiddo is graduating next week and her graduation party is tomorrow night. I need to be able to function 😭

Fosamax - GI Issues

Took my first (and only dose) of once weekly Fosamax last Friday. Took it exactly as directed immediately upon waking up with a sip of water. Did not eat or drink anything further. Stayed up right for hours afterwards.

By Sunday morning the GI issues started.

I called my rheumatologist Monday and said no more and he's working on authorization for Prolia. I have MS and have had swallowing issues off and on that he was aware of but he kept pushing it. I should have pushed back and refused but after 5 months of appointments and no treatment (kept being seen by the PA who failed to do anything at all) I was just glad to start something.

Symptoms: Intense burning and cramping in my stomach that gets worse when I eat. I've had some heartburn but it's not been nearly as bad as the stomach issues. I've also had nausea off and on and spent a good amount of time gagging in the shower this morning. It seems to be getting worse by the day.

I've tried Tums, Pepto, and finally today Pepcid AC. I've gotten some relief from the burning with the Pepcid but still having intense cramping.

I am going to call his office again tomorrow but wondering if anyone else has reacted this way and if the symptoms stopped eventually without taking any further doses. Any insight is appreciated. I am miserable.

ETA: I have Osteopenia but on the nearly Osteoporosis side. In my early 40s.

We are traveling with two 17 year old girls in mid-June and I think we've narrowed down our options to either the Hard Rock Riviera Maya or Moon Palace Sunrise as both offer two bedroom suites. We definitely want everyone to have some privacy but I'm not sure separate rooms potentially far away from each other is the way to go!

If anyone has been to one or both and would recommend one or the other specifically because it's more fun for teens I'd love to hear your experiences.
