0803RL practice

This marks the longest I’ve ever spent on a fake skin lol, I wanted to share my progress so far and see what people’s thoughts are on 3RL only technique. This whole piece was done with Da Vinci 0803RL needles and it’s been a great learning experience to see how far I can push the limits of a single cartridge.

This is the video that inspired me to try this technique:

Legs in progress

Did some touching up on a collection I’m working on and wanted to share. The tigers are about 6 months healed, the blackwork/roses 2-3 months old. The tigers were done when I’d only been tattooing about three months and I’ve come a long way since lol. I’m excited to bring the two pieces together on each leg, my plan is to do dark ornamental designs that frame the tigers and flow into the roses.

Cyber rib set

Just finished up a second full day on this blackwork set. Right side is one week old and almost fully healed, left side is fresh.

Completed a project!

Just wrapped day 2 on this bone harness and am stoked on how it came out! Her left side is fresh and the right is fully healed. I used a 3RL for the entirety of the project and was struck by how well her right side healed with this method. Absolutely zero scarring or trauma and virtually all of the detail of the fresh piece intact. She said it took about 4 days to heal and had no crust or scabbing.

(the red markings on her healed piece are indentations from laying on her bikini)

Bone harness

Just wrapped the second session on this project. Her left thigh is fresh and the right side is fully healed. Both sides done entirely with a 3RL.

Home cooked blackwork

These were made in my home studio and ended up being my longest session I’ve done to date, about 9 hours of tattooing between both legs. Done with a 1015RM at 9.0v.

Mouth of Sauron on fake skin

Just finished a new piece in honor of my favorite bad guy.

Texture study: mag v 3rl

The falcon was done entirely with a 1009RM and the reaper and skulls were all done with a 0803RL. I wanted to see how far I could push a single cartridge, each style definitely has its drawbacks as well as strengths!

Bone skirt in progress

First session on this new project. We’re going to do a symmetrical one on her left hip. Really stoked on how it flows with her figure. Done with a DaVinci 0803rl cartridge in my home studio.

New piece

This is one half of the final project, I’m going to tattoo a symmetrical one on the other hip. Bone wing skirt is the concept. All done with a DaVinci 3rl cartridge.

The Mouth

I always thought the Mouth of Sauron was one of the scariest agents of the dark lord. This is my attempt at his portrait, tattooed on synthetic skin.

Blackwork progress

Just finished this sternum piece, the lower abdomen is two weeks old and almost done healing. I’ve really been slowing things down and being extra fastidious when packing black and it’s helped me a lot. I use the same cartridge for all the packing (15 curved mag) and make an effort to use the the exact same motion of slow small circles for the entirety of the piece, I’ve found this makes a difference in healing to get a smooth and consistent final product with no scarring or trauma.

I’m using a Dragonhawk L3 machine and ran a Kwadron 15 curved mag at 10v for this piece. Panthera black gold ink.

Today was my first day working at a professional studio as a self taught artist!

It’s been 14 months since I bought my Dragonhawk on Amazon as a 37yo hospitality worker with no artistic background. Today was my first day working at Studio Sashiko/Le Papillion Studio in Los Angeles and marks the start of my new career. This is the proudest achievement of my life and I wanted to share it w you guys, thanks for all the support as well as the tough love over the past year ❤️

I’m @bone_merchant on insta if you want to follow along my journey!
