Where to stay as an older (51) backpacker

I did a fair amount of backpacking in my 20s and 30s and always liked the vibe of slightly more chilled, non-party hostels where it was easy to meet and chat to other travellers. I'm about to do my first solo backpacking trip for quite some time, starting in Chiang Mai and heading round the north, and I'm wondering if there is any place in Chiang Mai where I won't stand out a mile for being ancient, and perhaps even meet other older travellers

Great daytime shows

I'm spoilt for choice when it comes to shows from about 5pm onwards every day I'll be in Edinburgh, but so far I've found fewer things to excite me earlier in the day, which means I'm no doubt missing out on some great stuff. So has anyone got any good recommendations for stuff to check out?

Best Review Sites

This will be my third year at the fringe, but the first where I have more free time, and now I have an idea how it works I want to be more mindful about what I book*. I'm not going until the last week, so one plus side is that I can take advantage of what is being reviewed well. So what would regulars agree the best places to find lots of reviews, especially of comedy shows?

*I will of course still allow room for more mindless choices, spontaneity and slightly random choices are part of the fun.

Things to do on a Tuesday afternoon / early evening

I'm going to be in Paris tomorrow morning for work, but should be free from 2pm until I head to the Gare du Nord to get a 9pm train back to London. I've been to Paris over a dozen times so i'd been hoping to check out one of the museums I've not been to yet, but it seems almost all are closed on a Tuesday. I've seen most of the 'obvious' sights. I have pretty broad interests - architecture (both historical and modern / contemporary), art, history, nature. Perhaps neighbourhoods that get less tourists but are worth a wander, perhaps even easy half-day trips

So what would you recommend for a summer half day on a Tuesday when lots of places are shut?
(nb. obviously one big thing is food - but that's something I'm happy working out myself)
