My Shared Hosting Nightmare with Spaceship – 180+ Websites Affected

I'm posting this to find out whether anyone else has experienced the same issue.

I currently host around 180 websites on a shared hosting account with Spaceship.

A few days ago, my websites started randomly returning Cloudflare Error 522. Shortly afterward, many of them became completely unreachable with ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT.

Some example websites affected:

These are only five examples. Nearly my entire hosting account has been affected.

During this incident, I received several different explanations from support:

  • CPU resource limits.
  • Shared server incident.
  • Browser cache.
  • Malware on my hosting account.
  • Finally, they informed me that the problem was caused by a large DDoS attack targeting server48.shared.spaceship.host.

I followed every recommendation they provided:

  • Scanned my account with Virus Scanner.
  • Checked everything using Imunify360.
  • Restored backups.
  • Tested from multiple browsers, devices, and internet connections.
  • Verified my Cloudflare configuration.

Unfortunately, none of these steps resolved the problem.

The situation has now become even worse. Many websites are no longer returning only Cloudflare 522 errors—they simply cannot be reached at all.

What concerns me most is the number of different explanations I received throughout the same incident. I'm not claiming that the DDoS explanation is incorrect, but after several days I still have not received a detailed technical incident report or a complete root cause analysis explaining exactly what happened.

Support also informed me that because they consider the outage to be related to a DDoS attack, they believe it falls under an exception to their uptime guarantee. They offered a small goodwill credit, but considering the scale and duration of the outage, I requested a one-year hosting extension instead.

At the time of writing this post, many of my websites are still offline.

I'm curious whether anyone else on Spaceship Shared Hosting, especially customers hosted on server48.shared.spaceship.host, has experienced similar outages during the last few days.

If you've been affected, please share your experience. I'd like to understand whether this is an isolated issue or if other customers have experienced the same server instability.

Has anyone else experienced repeated outages on Spaceship Shared Hosting?

I'm trying to understand whether this issue is affecting only my account or other customers as well.

Over the past few days, I've experienced repeated outages on my shared hosting account. Initially, some websites started returning Cloudflare Error 522, and later several websites became completely unreachable with connection timeouts.

A few examples include:

These are just a few examples. In total, I manage around 180 websites on this hosting account, and many of them have been affected.

I've worked with support throughout the incident and followed all of their recommendations, including malware scans, account checks, backup restoration, and testing from different devices and networks. Unfortunately, the issue has continued.

Support informed me that the shared server experienced a DDoS attack, while earlier in the investigation other possible causes were also discussed. Since I'm not able to verify the underlying infrastructure myself, I'm simply waiting for the final technical investigation and a permanent resolution.

I'm not posting this to criticize the company. I'm genuinely interested in knowing whether other customers on Spaceship Shared Hosting, particularly those on server48.shared.spaceship.host, have experienced similar problems during the last few days.

If you've been affected, I'd appreciate hearing about your experience and whether your websites are currently stable.

My experience with Spaceship Hosting: 180+ websites offline, disappearing files, and support that kept changing the explanation

I've been managing websites for many years and currently operate more than 180 websites, including 5-proxy.com, vpsrated.com, and many other WordPress projects.

Over the last few days, I experienced repeated Cloudflare 522 errors. At first, support told me the issue was related to my account reaching CPU limits and even suggested optimizing my websites or upgrading my hosting plan.

After checking my cPanel Resource Usage, I found that my average CPU usage was only around 2–5%, memory usage was very low, and there were almost no CPU faults. When I pointed this out, support changed their explanation and said the CPU event and the missing website files were actually two separate issues.

Then things became much worse.

Some of my websites suddenly started showing "Index of /" because website files had disappeared. Shortly afterward, all of my websites went completely offline.

Only after all of my websites were down did support finally acknowledge that there was an ongoing issue affecting the shared server and that their infrastructure team was investigating.

What frustrated me the most was that, while my websites were offline and my business was being affected, I was repeatedly asked to wait, and I was even encouraged to consider upgrading to a Virtual Machine instead of receiving answers about what had happened to my websites and files.

I'm not posting this to attack the company. I'm posting because this incident has affected my business, visitors, and SEO, and I still don't have a technical explanation for:

  • Why my website files disappeared.
  • Why all of my websites went offline.
  • Whether this was a server-side incident.
  • What safeguards exist to prevent this from happening again.

Has anyone else experienced a similar incident with Spaceship Hosting? If so, how was it resolved, and did they provide you with a proper root cause analysis afterward?

Spaceship Hosting blamed CPU usage, then several of my websites lost their files. Has anyone experienced this?

I'm posting this because I genuinely want to know if anyone else has experienced something similar with Spaceship Hosting.

I host multiple WordPress websites on my account.

The problems started with repeated Cloudflare 522 Connection Timed Out errors. Several websites became unavailable, so I contacted Spaceship support.

The first explanation I received was that my account had reached a CPU limit. The support agent suggested optimizing my websites or upgrading my hosting plan.

However, after I checked the cPanel Resource Usage, the numbers didn't seem to support that explanation:

  • Average CPU usage was around 2–5%
  • CPU limit was 200%
  • RAM usage was only around 50–65 MB out of 3 GB
  • I/O usage was extremely low
  • Very few CPU faults were recorded

When I pointed this out, the explanation changed.

The support agent later clarified that the CPU event and the missing website files were actually two separate issues, and also admitted they could not determine which process caused the CPU event because they don't have access to that information. They said the case would be escalated to a manager.

The most concerning part is that several of my websites suddenly started showing "Index of /", and I discovered that website files had disappeared. This is a much more serious issue than a temporary CPU spike.

At the moment I'm waiting for the senior team to investigate and explain:

  • Why did multiple websites lose their files?
  • Do the server logs show what happened?
  • Was this caused by a server-side issue?
  • Can they restore everything from backup?

I'm not trying to attack the company. I simply want a proper technical explanation based on server logs rather than assumptions.

Has anyone here experienced websites suddenly losing files on Spaceship Hosting or receiving similar explanations?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences before I decide whether to migrate all of my websites elsewhere.
