Need reality check and insight on budget for incoming 1L

Incoming 1L sa UP Diliman CoL here. My daily commute will be roughly 3 hours total, can be more or less depending on rush hour. It'll be 3 rides each way — jeep, LRT, 8 min walk, jeep, 8 min walk.

My family is considering whether renting a bedspace is worth it. Our maximum monthly budget for all expenses is 10k. This can't be stretched. It's already a lot. We're thinking of finding a bedspace for 5k max all-in (wifi, water, electricity), where I can also cook to save on food costs. I've been looking on Facebook and it seems like may mahahanap naman, although a kitchen is more difficult to find. I'll be going home on weekends to do laundry and eat there too.

My questions are:

  • Is the 10k budget going to be enough?
  • Is it worth it, or should I just deal with the 3 hour commute?

I'm admittedly not a stellar student, so I know I can benefit from all the extra time I can get. Plus, I'm not particularly physically fit. Nakakapagod. But my family has doubts about whether the budget will be enough. And studying on an empty stomach is going to suck.

I'll be applying for the scholarship, but I'm not getting my hopes up for it. I'll try for the UP dorms din next sem, because I sadly missed the opening 🥹

Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Thank you for reading!

Disclosure of disability and mental health conditions for PEHA/Student Directory

Incoming UP Diliman (Day) 1L here. I was wondering about the following:

  1. Is it absolutely necessary to disclose a disability or mental health disorder in the PEHA/Student Directory?
  2. If one fails to disclose the above, what would the consequences be?
  3. Are professors informed about students' disabilities/mental health disorder?
  4. Do professors do anything if they know that a student has a physical disability or mental illness? For example, are there harsh professors who use it to pick on a student? Are some professors willing to provide reasonable accommodations for these conditions if found necessary?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! :)

Is the UP Law reservation fee credited to the tuition fees? How does enrollment and scholarship/tuition fee discounts work?

Is the 5k reservation fee for UP Law credited to the tuition fees? And how does the enrollment process work? I know that we need to pay the reservation, do the PEHA assessments, and submit document hard copies by July 07. But as someone from outside the UP system, can anyone kindly help walk me through the rest of the processes?

Additionally, I heard that there's tiered tuition fees depending on household income—would my family's ITR be needed for enrollment, or is it something I have to apply for? And may priority daw PWDs for enrollment?

As for the scholarship, it says that "Total household income does not exceed the PHP 12,000 per member of the household" supports the scholarship application, but what if one of the household members earns enough to exceed that, but they do not support the rest of the household aka they keep their full income?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
