Being black
Hi, I’m an incoming freshman and at first I wasn’t too worried about going to Binghamton but I did recently scroll through the actual Binghamton subreddit and there were just a few things that worried me about going there especially in relation to my race. Unfortunately I will be suitemates with only white girls and I have talked to all of them and none seem like they’re bigoted but I’m also worried about the change I will have to adjust to. I know most college campuses are mostly progressive but is the surrounding area something I would have to worry about? Where I live in NY it is very diverse and there are actually not a lot of white people in the school that I went to so I’ve barely experienced actual discrimination especially in an academic setting. For the black people and just poc in general could I hear some of your experiences especially outside the campus? Also is it possible for spring semester if I could request to be roomed with at least one person who is poc or is that discriminatory?
