[New-Used Gear] Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and EF 300mm f4L IS
I picked up the 300mm for an upcoming airshow. Then, I figured it would be good to have it attached to a second body, and keep a 70-200 attached to my R5 for close-in shots. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I've always been curious about 1-series cameras, and decided it would be more fun to have a 1-series than something newer, so here we are.
I love this camera. The shutter sounds...the best adjective I can think of is "decisive"...in a way that my previous DSLRs didn't. It is heavy in a reassuring way (and also in a "I shouldn't take this on long hikes" way), but not as heavy as it looks. It is also obvious that the camera has been lapped technologically: even an R50 beats it on resolution and shooting speed, which was the 1Dm4's bread and butter. The IS in the 300mm lens is clunky as hell compared to modern IS lenses. I was very surprised at how noisy ISO 800 is, compared to modern sensors. But, I'm still having a ton of fun with this setup.
