There is just no payoff anymore

I have been watching GH since 2007 (on and off of course) and I’ve been watching soaps in general for even longer. I know the format. We get a big deception/scheme/secret that is drawn out for a while until it’s finally revealed usually at some large gathering like a party, wedding or the Nurses Ball, etc etc. and then the character doing the bad thing usually faces consequences that make the long storyline feel worth it but lately there has been literally no payoff.

They wasted our time with this whole storyline of Willow keeping Drew locked in with zero big reveal and zero payoff. They wasted our time with Alexis, Ava and Kristina kidnapping Ric with zero big reveal and zero payoff (and I know we’re definitely not gonna get it now that Kristina’s gone.) Sidwell caused Maxie’s coma and he’s written off off screen and it’s just revealed like it’s any old conversation. Again zero pay off. Michael finally finds out that Willow shot Drew and the punishment is that she moves into the gatehouse of a mansion rent free where she could have access to her kids practically 24 seven making their custody arrangement irrelevant. Again zero pay off.

I’m sure there’s many more examples but we put up with a longer drawn out stories in hopes that we are going to get a big climactic reveal and they’re just not even doing that anymore and it makes me completely uninvested in any of the stories because they go nowhere.

What is going on and why is every story so anti-climactic?

Michael and Jacinda are kind of a flop

I was a really big fan of this pairing when they started and I was excited to see Michael have his Pretty Woman moment and fall deeply in love with this sex worker in Jacinda however, I feel like they have largely dropped the ball with this pairing.

Almost every single conversation that Michael and Jacinda have is about Willow and Chase, and she’s positioned more as his co-conspirator than his girlfriend. Literally anyone could have been in the role of Michael’s co- conspirator against Willow, such as Tracy or even Carly, but why waste this potentially great romantic pairing on having Michael constantly rant to his girlfriend about his ex-wife?

It’s also super insulting to Jacinda that Michael is constantly summoning her to scheme and plot against Willow and not to actually go on a date and grow closer to each other as a couple. It’s getting old at this point, and I really would like to see their relationship progress, but it seems to be stuck in the same never-ending “let’s take down Willow and Chase” loop.

I feel like this is also a huge waste of Rory Gibson, who quickly became a fan favorite, and seamlessly, took over the role of Michael and they’re limiting him on the canvas to having the same scenes with Willow, Chase, Brooklyn etc. with no real compelling story and it’s really taking the steam out of his character for me.

The Jack/Patty/Diane storyline is reprehensible

I am beyond disgusted at Y&R’s decision to continue this repugnant storyline of Jack being kidnapped, drugged and RAPED being treated as though he had some tryst with Patty and “cheated” on his wife. It is disgusting to see the writers think that rpe is not rpe so long as it happens to a man.

And the fact that they are centering Diane’s “pain and trauma” when it was in fact her husband that was harmed…the writers should be ashamed of themselves. It is 2026. We are post me-too. The utter disregard for male victims is irresponsible and morally bankrupt. It is enough for me to boycott the show entirely.

Ngudu is boring and not needed

The most interesting thing about Ngudu is his name and it pretty much stops there. Of all the revolving door of doctors who come and go, Ngudu just keeps coming back and with no real storylines that are even remotely interesting or character driven.

Since he’s been introduced, his storylines pretty much boil down to “he’s dating someone.” If they wanna keep him around, why not write more interesting story for him? There’s so much that could be explored, I.e his Nigerian-American heritage (I’ve never really seen this before explored on a tv show before but it would be sooo interesting to see), his backstory, just giving him an interesting personality idk. What are your thoughts on Ngudu?
