Soho Satchel (2007) — My “Rhyder at home”

I’ve been caught up in the Rhyder hype lately and watching a lot of videos about the pros and cons of the bag. It does seem like an amazing reissue, with modern slouch and retro details (the OG is from 2014 and not technically vintage but it does have vintage styling!). I knew I’d prefer the 24 over the large size, and I just haven’t had luck with the various drops.

I also saw some videos where people were talking about the front pocket being small or unusable. And honestly I’m tired of attaching an extra strap to my bags so I can wear them as shoulder bags.

So I started listing what I liked about the bag - the front Turnlock, the thick handles, the corner details, and the stitching. And then I thought of what I don’t love about the bag - the rivets, the small handle straps, how thin the bag is, and needing an extra strap.

End result was this amazing score on Poshmark! It’s a 2007 SoHo Satchel (J0771-11539). It fits everything! Not only does it scratch the Rhyder itch but it also satisfies my other itch for a Rowan with longer handles. It was also only $115, so massive savings compared to the Rhyder.

Anyway!! Long story short; Coach has made a spectacular number of bags, many iterating on specific design details over and over. If you are missing out on a hyped bag, always consider researching older styles :) you never know what you’ll find!

They’re watching us! ♥️

This feels like such a nice little nod to the Reddit community! I know it’s been a few months, but the inside-out Chelsea and then everyone experimenting with turning our other bags inside out was a cute creative moment here. And now on the runway they did a purpose built inside out Chelsea and it’s just lovely! 🥰

Sticking with Brown

Coachtopia Patchwork Brooklyn comparison.

I thought I’d really prefer the black strap with rust patches, but I think I’m going to stick with the OG brown patches.

Overall the brown is more “harmonious” and it’s a funky but quiet bag. It looks nicer with greens and blues than the black/rust bag.

However… the brown one has some wrinkles on one of the light leather patches and I dislike the dark contrast stitch of the pocket over the light leather on the back of the bag. But it has all leather patches on the bottom panels which is awesome!

The black one has a few of the rust suede patches on the bottom which will always make the bag more difficult to throw on the ground when needed. Also it just doesn’t look nice with blue jeans (compared to the brown).

Returning today :) Hope the comparison helps others!

I couldn’t resist… STARS!!⭐️

I loooove stars, they’re my favorite motif. This purse is so well made. The star beads are round so they don’t shimmer, but the black beads are faceted so they sparkle! It’s such a pretty effect in the light. Its like a mini fireworks show 🥰

Really excited to wear this to my family’s annual party! It’s a big family tradition for us, and part of how I was welcomed into my husband’s family and got to know all his extended cousins and aunties. This will be used for many, many years, and hopefully passed on as our kids continues the annual family tradition.

UPDATE - Vintage Madison Satchel (1986-87) DIY

Finished my other DIY project this weekend! Started due to overwhelming jealousy of everyone’s Honeycomb bags. But then I realized, I don’t just want honeycomb, I want the whole beehive! 🐝

Screw-on bees are from Amazon btw!

Suede Haversack - embroidered pockets!

This was inspired by a Strathberry purse with crocheted edges that I kept getting ads for a month ago. I couldn’t decide what color to use, but I finally knew how I wanted to embroider my Haversack when the Coachtopia Plaza came out! I added green at the last minute to make it more my own :)

Process took about 3 hours for the two pockets. Should I also do the strap?

Steps are basically to punch evenly spaced holes along the edge, and then do three lock stitches per hole along the edge. Pretty basic but beautiful!

UPDATE: I have punched the strap but I want to warn anyone else trying to follow this project to be mindful of the stitch in the middle of the strap!! It’s only visible on the back of the strap so I nearly punched it because I was punching with the suede side up.

Also just in general DO NOT punch through any stitching on your bags! ♥️

Fuschia Chelsea 30 — INSIDE OUT!!

Bwahaha!! I feel like a mad genius!!

Saw that the interior of the Fuschia Chelsea was a beautiful Napa leather. Popped her inside out as soon as I took her home. Probably just as delicate as Suede but I don’t care, THIS color is perfect!

Edit: I am not good at this but I made a video trying to show how I did it. Push the corners in, then grab an edge flat and pull it out, then the other side edge. Then you kind of grab all the excess at the back and roll it to pick up the slack. Then it’s just a bit of tugging and straightening.

Received my Coach Metropolitan today and… my first impression is that this is a really, really loving and excellent reissue of the vintage bag. The leather is the same beautiful soft full grain as the new soft grain Tabby, it has a beautiful slouch and it’s incredibly light. The interior is beautiful suede! Light and soft, which is an amazing contrast to the black. The size is identical to the old bag but also somehow smaller, larger, the same? It’s hard to describe. The structure is identical but with some modern reinforcements around the ribbing that are great improvements.

The hardware additions are total upgrades; handle is now stiff, snap closure on the front pocket is great, back magnet is the same as in the new Rogue, and the grommets add a cool edgy look. The reissue is also substantially lighter and the strap is thicker so it’s more comfortable on the shoulder. I may be adding grommets to the holes in my vintage strap after seeing this bag, because this feature is great! It makes the strap much more durable and adds flair.

Though I will obviously be keeping my vintage Metropolitan in British Tan; he’s made it this far in life (made around 1988) and has many years ahead! But I see no reason not to keep his shiny new brother. Thanks Coach!

P.S. I have no plans on seeng DWP2, I bought this for the vintage tribute to a legendary brief. LONG LIVE THE BRIEFCASE! Bonus photo: the briefcase crew (queue Oceans 11 theme music)

Suns out and no chance of rain so I grabbed my Plaza 20 and Rogue 36 this morning. Perfect color match despite my Rogue being 10 years old and the Plaza is a baby. I love the color consistency across Coach, it makes building collections and wardrobe matches so easy :)

P.S. for those wondering, or sad that they can’t find a Rogue 40, the 36 fits a 14” laptop very comfortably. They pop up on resale for much less than a new 40.

I picked up the LL Dakota on the drop last week out of sheer luck and FOMO. I wasn’t sure it would be a keeper, and had a friend lined up to take her if it wasn’t a fit. But… oh man.

This bag is really good. It fits everything, perfect organization. It’s like the polar opposite of the Brooklyn while hitting the same “I could wear this everyday” vibe. Main compartment comfortably fits my pouch with essentials (balms, bandaids, roll-on oils, mini deodorant, wipes, floss, compact, sunnies, etc etc). Can even cram a mini kindle in the back. Front compartment fits hand spray, battery pack, wallet, other small things. And front slip pocket fits a large cellphone. Zipper is smooth and sturdy. It’s compact and low key but also gives you a kinda badass masculine edgy feeling.

Only sour note is this bag is strangely squeaky. And if you pickup extra life along your day, it’s best to also pack a little folding grocery bag because there’s not much space after you Tetris your life into this bag. But that fits in there too :)

Went to the Outlet today to try on the Deer Nolita and snap some pictures for a friend. Had my Rexy with me so I clipped him on the totes so the color is easier to compare.

The plaid bag, and the plaid pockets on the cargo bag, have a distinct green color that doesn’t come thru online. It looks good on the tote but not so much on the cargo bag.

The floral totes are very cute! Colors are vintage and classic.

I looooove the design of the new cargo bag and would get one except the pockets being green, while the rest of the bag is a yellow and white theme. The design is so cool tho, very Legacy inspired. Also, why…. Why…. WHY DID COACH PUT EDGE TRIM ON THESE POCKETS AND NOT THE HAVERSACK??
