p0126 on 2023 cx5. safe to leave idle for one month?
hi everybody, last year in august i bought a 2023 cx5 mazda certified pre owned. ran great, no problems. fast forward abt two weeks ago my check engine light came on. my sister had some kind of obd scanner that she plugged into my car that read the light. it said that the problem code was a p0126- coolant thermostat condition low operating temperature. she told me that the problem was most likely that my coolant was low and all i needed to do was top it off. so i bought coolant and put it in, but my check engine light is still on. i suppose this means that the problem lies elsewhere, like a leaking/stuck open thermostat, or some kind of faulty temp sensor.
the thing is, i’m flying back to my home country in a week. i’m working full-time so this means i have no time to take my car to a mechanic, have them find out what the actual problem is, order parts if needed, and then fix it. i’m the only driver of my car, so i’m planning to just leave it idle at my house while i’m away for the whole month, then resolve it when i get back. but would this be safe? would leaving this problem for a month somehow cause my engine damage and costly repairs down the line? my car would mostly be inactive for that entire month, except the fact that i plan to ask a friend to drive it around the block once, around the 2-week mark, just to not let it get too idle.
