Christmas Hotel Recs

I narrowed it down to these 3 places:

  1. Onyado Nono/ Onyado Nono Bettai in Asakusa (is the bettai better?)

  2. Dormy Inn Premium Ginza

  3. Dormy Inn Premium Shibuya - Jingumae

I'm looking for easy walkability to train stations, good onsen/hot spring, nice room, and good food close by. Traveling for 5 nights over Christmas, so any holiday markets are a plus. Thanks!

AIO my cousin is borderline negligent

My mom has been spending time with my cousin and her almost 3 year old daughter who has a severe expressive and receptive language disorder and severe undiagnosed autism and adhd. They just had a newborn last month and I fear the almost 3 year old year old will receive even less language input.

My cousin is a very nice woman but she never went to college and doesn’t have much education. She has decided to home school her child with learning disabilities and is refusing to put them into speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, or behavioral therapy. For background, I am an SLP and specialize in working with mod-severe nonverbal children. I’ve told my mom time and time again how important early intervention is for her daughter but my mom thinks that I am over stepping by pushing it. I think my cousin is being a negligent parent by withholding services that could literally change the course of her life.

Am I overreacting? Should I keep pushing? Should I stop and give up since it’s not my child? I worry about her often and think about her whenever I work with non verbal toddlers.

Edit: corrected age

Honeymoon Dinner Recs

My fiancé and I are spending 5 nights in Cabo for our mini moon and want to eat at some nice restaurants. So far these are the 5 places that stood out to me after doing research. I’m trying to prioritize good food > views.

  1. Farol 16
  2. Lumbre in San José
  3. Metate
  4. Acre in San José
  5. Manta

Any suggestions? Is this a good spread?

Elephant Plains/ Hamilton’s Tented Camp

Has anyone stayed at Elephant Plains in Sabi Sands/Manyeleti or Hamilton’s Tented Camp in Mluwati concession.

Any thoughts or recommendations while I’m there? Will be traveling in July for 3 nights at each spot. Thanks :)

Getting from one park to another

I’m going from Elephant Plains to Hamilton’s Tented Camp in July and was curious how to get from one camp to the next. We’re not planning on self-driving or renting our own car but aren’t completely opposed. Can you hire transportation between?

Kruger Concessions Lodge

I am planning a honeymoon for 6 nights in Kruger in July 2027 (3 nights at Elephant Plains + 3 nights at _________). Places I was considering that have private concessions are:

Hoyo Hoyo (Mluwati)

- less expensive than Imabli, same price as Rhino Post

Imbali (Mluwati)

- luxury/honeymoon vibe

- more expensive

- Is Imbali significantly better than the other options, or just more expensive??

Rhino Post Lodge (Mutlumuvi)

- shares boundary with Mala Mala and Sabi Sand

- will it be the same drives as Elephant Plains?

Kruger Shalati (NOTABLE MENTION)

- Not a concession, will have to use public roads only

- Situated over the Sabie river, great views

- Same price as Imbali

(Jock, Singita, Lion Sands, Lukimbi are all out of price range, unfortunately).

Kruger Shalati or Leopard Sands

Which would be better for 3 nights for a honeymoon? Have you stayed at either?

Kruger Shalati: Sunset Suite Room (not train room)

-private patio

-plunge pool

-view of the river/plains

-inside the national park

-can't afford train carriage room, is it still worth it for the area/view?

Leopard Sands

-cheaper

-private patio

-plunge pool

-view of the river/plains

-outside the national park (10 min away)

-bigger rooms

Maasai Mara vs Serengeti

I am in between visiting the Serengeti or Maasai Mara for a 5-8 night safari in late July 2027 (July 22-28 estimate) and want to see:

- The Great Migration

- Lions, Giraffes, Elephants, Zebra, Cheetah, Hippo.

Between Maasai Mara and the Serengeti, where would you stay? Do you have any suggestions for lodges or camps that are under $5k/pp? Thanks!
