Can we talk about cameras at Boom?
Boom is meant to be a space where you can fully let your guard down — and in that heat, love & joy people get pretty open and exposed - if just dancing, doing d**gs, rockin minimal to no clothing, or all of the above ;)
That only works because we trust the people around us to be present with us, not filming us.
The rules say "unplug to connect" and ban "invasive cameras." Great in spirit — but that was written for a world where you could actually see the camera. Camera glasses like Ray-Ban (no, not Snap ;)) are cheap now and built to record unnoticed. A rule that depends on spotting the lens does nothing against a device made to hide it.
And not everything filmed gets shared in Boom's spirit. Long POV clips end up online (from youtube to xxxsites - check the LINK in my EDIT), some pretty clearly hunting for people at their most uninhibited or undressed — filmed by someone they never saw or agreed to. People trusted the space, and that trust got used against them.
So maybe:
- boom could point out plainly that filming people without consent (phone, glasses, whatever) isn't a grey area;
- actually name and maybe ban wearables/covert recording, since the current wording predates them;
- makes this an awareness-topic. what to do if someone feels uncomfortable about a situation like being (secretly) filmed
what do you think about it?
EDIT: topic is not new and discussed already. but as tech is evolving, it stays relevant and need attention.
