6 weeks post op update

6 weeks post op update

Left side is before vs. 6 weeks post op! Le fort 1 one piece (2mm forward) and BSSRO (rotated ~5mm left) to fix an underbite and crossbite with lower jaw assymetry.

I know it's very early and i have a ways to go with healing, but what do you think of the results so far? I'm guessing that my face will slim down more. I'm worried my jawline will make me look masculine 😂

I don't miss my bite but I kinda miss my old face. i feel insecure when ppl stare and how i look in pictures but I'm probably just getting used to my new face and still swollen. Still, I love my new smile and side profile

I'm cleared to eat solid foods 🎉, except tough/hard foods like carrot, steak, beef jerky, etc until week 8. I started PT, which is SO PAINFUL btw... I can open my mouth barely two fingers width and my jaw gets super sore.

But overall I'm happy i finally got this done and cant wait to have full use of my new bite!

Before vs. 16 days post op

Still have swelling and stiffness ofc but I'm already happy with how things are looking and feeling.

Less than 4 weeks until I get the bands off 😄 I miss eating food

Procedures done:

  1. Le Fort I one-piece with bone graft
  2. Bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO)

ETA: just want to clarify that I'm happy with how my bite is feeling. The facial muscle spasms and cramps are killing me 🫠 but warm compresses and ibuprofen help. Thankfully the zapping sensations/shocks have gone down recently.

4+ years of decompensation/presurgical braces...finally getting DJS next Friday

I've been lurking this subreddit for a while... Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and tips/tricks/advice for DJS prep and recovery. I'm really nervous but mostly excited to be in the final stretch of a long, long journey. I have 1 more year left (hopefully), including 8-12 months of post-surgical braces, before my jaw and bite issues are finally addressed 🤞

Orthodontist's dx (Fenn Orthodontics, El Cajon, CA)- skeletal class 3 malocclusion with anterior crossbite

Surgeon’s dx (Carmel Valley Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, San Diego, CA)- mandibular hyperplasia with asymmetry and maxillary hypoplasia

Procedures- Le Forte 1 one-piece with bone graft, bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) and interdental fixation of the mandible

-Movements (mm) in last pic

In plain language- my upper jaw will be moved forward, my lower jaw will be moved back and rotated a bit to the left, and my teeth/jaws will be banded shut

Wish me luck for August 21st 🥲🙏 I plan to post before+after plus progress photos when I feel better.
