need recovery pointers for 8 month old on bed rest

How did you keep your adolescent mal calm and satisfied for two weeks of bed rest?? He has bilateral rear dewclaw amputation tomorrow morning and he will not be on any sedatives after he gets out of surgery 😫 What new things can I teach him to keep his brain occupied while I’m home from work in the evenings (he will be crated during the day per usual)?

hind dewclaw amputation support thread

For people who had to go through rear dewclaw amputation with their mals (of any age)… how did you navigate the recovery period, how old was your dog at the time, and what did you find the most helpful to keep your dog calm and satisfied with having to be on bedrest (and why if you don’t mind sharing, because not everything works for everyone)?

For people who have had to keep an 8 month old mal on bed rest, what did you do to keep them tired? After he has his procedure, he can’t have many sedatives because he responds very poorly based on our test doses. He will have NSAID pain meds just no sedatives, so no pain but the need for bedrest (great what could go wrong 💀💀💀) I’m open to training inspo. He already knows so much and I don’t know many stationary commands myself to teach him. My only creative idea so far is teaching him to focus/stare at an object. That will use up MAYBE one day (out of 14+)?
