Hello everyone! My wife and I have a 3 and a half month Belgian Malinois German Shepherd puppy. He’s more Belgian Malinois though. We also have a 2 year old female Belgian Malinois German Shepherd so we do know what we got ourselves into BUT we didn’t get to experience her puppy stage really since we got her at 6 months old so this itty bitty puppy stage is new to us.
I’ve got a list of questions (sorry in advance)
- he eats 3 cups of Purina Pro plan puppy sensitive skin and stomach. Is that enough? It’s split into 3 meals.
- I know Mals talk with their mouths and I have no issue with him or my 2 year old biting me gently or playing with me a little rough (not too hard though, boundaries) but since he’s a puppy should I be limiting how much he’s allowed to bite me or anything of the sort?
- Are there any specific toys or chews you recommend? We have a LOT of toys and chews but I’m always looking for more.
- I mean this in the most loving way, but when will he stop being so mean lol? Love him and his meanness but wow sometimes it’s a lot. He gets plenty of naps so it’s not him being overtired.
- crate training. How did you do it? We currently have him on a schedule of 1 hour up and playing with me, my wife, or my dog, and/or everyone’s included and then he’ll sleep for about 2 hours in the crate. He seems to be doing great on it. And please, I don’t want to hear how to never crate them..I’m very adamant of wanting to crate train. My 2 year old is and it’s been a dream.
- Overall, just any tips and tricks please!
I just asked Tally (my mal) if she was done making messes and she looked me in the eyes and in a pitch I have never heard from her before she said “noooo”
Logan (my husky/akita) is very good at saying the word no and when she said it she sounded just like him. I think she’s learning how to talk 😂😂. Anyone else’s Mal ever start talking like a husky?
Send poopy prayers and tell bro to stop being so stubborn it’s probably the last time in his life he’s allowed to poop in the house lol
Double coned up because malinois
Edit: omg stupid tag was supposed to be photo not question I am so sorry 🤣
Apparently having scritches is more important than a clean living space with comfy soft bed.

ENERGETIC CUDDLE BUG!💖🥰
Today she watched fireworks without panic—calm, focused, and neutral. Exactly what we’ve been working toward. Gerda is currently training for IGP1, and later in the sport she’ll be working around gunfire during the obedience routine. The goal isn’t to ignore the sound—it’s to stay calm, confident, and focused on the job.
Please don’t take your dog to fireworks just to “see how they do.” If your dog isn’t already comfortable with loud noises, fireworks can create fear that may take months—or even longer—to overcome. Safety and trust always come first.
She's been so gentle with her it's a wonder to witness. I was worried that she would get overly excited and energetic but she's just a perfect older sister.
We got our pupper to swim. Guess the heat was too much, now she won't go out again.
I was out with my two very small dogs yesterday.
We met a woman who was walking a friendly Malinois - she was very friendly even with my two small dogs.
The woman explained that it's a working police dog and that it lives with her (she's the handler) and her family.
There's no way I could own a young Malinois - they need to much exercise and with my work I couldn't give that.
But in future I could probably meet the needs of an older dog that doesn't require or want as much activity.
I'm surprised by how friendly this dog was especially for a working police dog which is trained to use aggression if need be to protect its handler.
She told me that when the dog retires she's going to keep it and that it will just switch to a permanent pet mode.
I'm thinking though that there's still a risk to such a dog being in the wrong hands if adopted by somebody who doesn't understand the working role training.
I've read that pre adoption vetting is strict and also that it's quite rare for a dog not to be kept on as a pet by the handler or by another officer.
Is it the case though that an older dog - about eight years old - will be less active and require less walking and running?
this is my 93lb mal boxer mix and i havent a clue what a good harness is for a dog like him 🤣. do yall have any good recs? i work at petsmart but none of the ones we sell fit him cuz his chest is so big around
