Infotainment lags + Navi Pilot Assist questions
I test drove an EX90 today and honestly came away both impressed and confused.
The car itself felt fantastic:
- extremely spacious,
- very comfortable,
- and the Bowers & Wilkins audio system was absolutely incredible.
The demo car already had the dual NVIDIA Orin upgrade, but what really surprised me was the infotainment responsiveness. The UI sometimes lagged by 1–2 seconds after tapping icons, which honestly felt like using an old Android tablet from 10+ years ago. I genuinely did not expect that level of lag in a flagship “software-defined vehicle”.
So I wanted to ask current EX90 owners:
- Has the infotainment responsiveness improved through recent updates?
- Is the system now smooth and responsive in daily use?
- Are there still frequent lags/freezes/delayed reactions?
- And how satisfied are you overall with the software experience?
I’m also trying to understand the future of Pilot Assist / Navi Pilot Assist.
There are discussions suggesting that future Navi Pilot Assist functionality will require new hardware and will not be retrofitted to existing EX60 vehicles.
Does anyone know whether current EX90 hardware is expected to support future generations of Pilot Assist through OTA updates?
Or is Volvo already moving toward another hardware generation for more advanced assisted driving features?
I really want to love this car, but right now I’m struggling to understand Volvo’s long-term SDV/software strategy.
