Tips for starting a new BP job [N/A]?

I’ve been an HR Director/BP. for the last 3.5 years and prior to that a “business partner” at director level for a year. In my current HR Director role, I definitely lean more HR director than business partner and in my previous ‘director business partner’ role I don’t think that role was scoped truly at a director level. It was originally scoped as a manager, but they wanted to hire me. I was coming from a vice president role in finance (director equivalent outside of finance) and I couldn’t accept the Manager level comp so they upgraded the role to a director, but the scope was essentially the same as the Manager.

Having said that, I’m under the guise that my new job (Director, BP) is truer to the intended HRBP model in the sense that there are COEs, the role reports to the business, not HR and the hiring manager (US CEO) expects a strategy and thought partner, not someone chasing performance reviews. I’ll also be the head of HR for this subsidiary but the parent company handles a lot of the HR management. Music to my ears!

I feel like I have imposter syndrome though. And I have a list of things I want to do differently in onboarding this time versus my last two roles. For starters, I want to sit in staff meetings way earlier to establish myself as a team member and not “HR” and to get a better understanding of the business and roles way sooner. My last role was more HRD than BP and as such I jumped into more of management of the HR function than driving business outcomes.

I would love to hear what you would do again or differently onboarding into a highly business oriented hr leadership role?

At what point in your career is maternity leave less disruptive?

I’m 39 and I have one child born at 37.5. We’re thinking about another which just got me thinking about this question. Is it better to take a few months for maternity leave (followed by working full time with a newborn) more junior in your career or when you’re already established? If there’s any time to be derailed, when is better? Does it depend on the type of role you have?

This doesn’t change anything for me and my timeline (obviously). I’m a director level starting a new job on Monday. I’ve been Director level for a number of years (I took a slight career pivot 5 years ago). The job I start on Monday while still a Director is definitely a strategic step up. I don’t care about job title but money is important and I probably still have 50-100k on the table if I keep pushing upward.

I had my son at director level at a job where I was way under capacity and the first year of taking care of my son was blissful and stress free. I didn’t feel like it impacted my career but wondering if it would be more impactful if I were on the precipice of the next step up or is it more impactful if you’re a more let’s say manager level and you’re still “proving yourself”?

This is just a curiosity of mine and would like to hear what other people think and what their experiences were. Moms who aren’t working can respond too if they had a “career”.

What is under my coop flooring?

Hi everyone, we own our queens coop for a few years and we have a squeaky floorboard we want to fix without involving the coop. Our assumption is that there is a floorboard with a joist underneath it and we would use a 3-3.5 inch screw to tighten them all back together. We have the appropriate tools for this method.

My main concern is not knowing what’s under there. It’s the hallway next to the bathroom (aka piping). Another assumption is that the piping would not be less than 3 inches from the floor. We’re on a middle floor.

Thoughts? Ty!

5’1.5” here

Ok so not super urgent but I need help lol. I’m an experienced lifter but holy shit I cannot set up a hip thrust to save my life. I’ve watched lots of videos and I know how to do a hip thrust but I think because I’m short, i don’t reach the ground in the right place to get under the bar.

What do I need to do differently hip thrusts are already painfully embarrassing to set up

Hi all, I am from NJ but do not currently live there. My husband and I have a one and a half year-old and are considering moving to New Jersey. From what I have read, there is some type of preschool funding that provides either free or low cost preschool for three and four year olds but information about this is hard to find I am guessing because there is variation between funding seat, availability, and different towns.

Our target towns are in rough order Rutherford, Lyndhurst, Bloomfield, Nutley.

It seems like the former two do not participate in the New Jersey preschool funding? And the latter two do? I just don’t understand the whole program so if somebody would be kind enough to give an overview that is slightly more substantive than what I can find on the Internet, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also-

I know I know it’s a crazy time to be considering buying, but it’s just where our family needs are at and I’m literally dying inside because I almost pulled the trigger on buying in Bloomfield pre-Covid several times.
