Daguerreotype of a man, 1/6 plate
Took out the glass and gave it a gentle clean to remove debris, came out better than I even expected.

I’ve posted this image before however I was able to get a good scan of the image after setting up my scanner bed. She almost has a smile going too.
Yet another piece from my favorite field, in Indiana. This was found near some very old buttons coins and other household objects. I have no idea what to think of it, other than it appears to be quite old judging by how much it has degraded. Appologies for the dirt, but I am afraid to clean it much more due to the fact it is beginning to flake apart. The front looks to definitely have “18” embossed on the center, with a lip going around all the outer edges of the plate. Can’t really think what this would go to, any ideas? For some reference, I believe a house dating from the 1830’s-1860’s stood here, as many of the identified objects I’ve found here have dated to that general timeline. Thank you!
I think it’s made of copper, almost everything thing else I’ve found here has dated to the early 1800’s, and the original land and home owner was a veteran of the war of 1812. It’s so small it’s almost impossible to get a clear image of. After cleaning it definitely looks to say “US” on the top. I have set it next to a US penny for size comparison. Does anyone have any ideas?
When do we think this dates to?
