Turo rented me a "Model S Plaid" that was locked in Chill Mode. They still refused to cancel.
I rented a Tesla Model S Plaid, about 3 weeks before the trip date. 24 hour before the trip, the owner send me a long message with irrelevant details about airports (not where I'm picking up/droping off). At the end, there's a snippet
>Plaid and sports mode not available. Speed limit is 90mph. Turo has restricted the plaid and sports mode to decrease the number of claims.
I message the host, he confirms that's the case. I suggest he make this transparent in his listing, and all he has to say is that "we don't have a discreption" (spelling error his). Fine, waste of time, but I contact Turo to cancel w/o the cancellation fee.
Turo tells me
>there is no documented Turo policy or platform‑wide restriction that limits “Plaid mode,” “sports mode,” or imposes a specific speed cap such as 90 mph. These types of limitations are not outlined as standard Turo restrictions in our support documentation.
Doesn't matter, proceed to explain to me
>After reviewing your case with our support team, we found that the cancellation request is not eligible for a full refund, as the trip falls outside the cancellation window
I ask Turo to reconsider. This is clearly bait and switch, advertising a Plaid model, while making only "chill mode" available. Turo's website boasts about these modes on Teslas.
>Mind-blowing speed >Long gone are the days of small puttering EVs. Tesla vehicles are some of the quickest-accelerating production cars on the planet, thanks to instant electric torque from their giant batteries — especially with Ludicrous Mode.
Doesn't matter, tells me I'm outside the cancellation window.
When a company chooses whatever fee they got out of this incident over building trust and protecting its users, it's all downhills from here. I didn't even have the opportunity to leave feedback for this host.
