The Community Standards Bylaw has been adopted!

At long last, the Community Standards Bylaw was adopted at the May 19th Council Meeting!

I know so many in the community including myself and throughout Langford have suffered many years from a variety of construction impacts as well as from businesses and people not behaving in a way that meets a reasonable community standard. This bylaw is very comprehensive and covers things from dumping to noise to dust to unoccupied premises. https://pub-langford.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=18198

The explosive growth we have experienced in Langford has brought some challenges and we didn't have the bylaws needed to take meaningful action for so many issues.

This is a real game changer for our quality of life.

The Good Neighbour Policy was also brought to Council as a committee resolution and will soon come back for adoption. This fantastic document sets out the expectations of developers and businesses in plain language and includes an up front declaration of acknowledgement.

This puts into writing a commitment including "following the policy to the best of my abilities, and acknowledge that a signed declaration must be on file with the City and that the City has the right to withhold processing of permit or licence applications in the absence of this signed declaration. Once signed, the declaration does not expire. I further acknowledge that this declaration, when signed: (1) serves as a first warning with respect to potential future bylaw or policy infractions relating to the construction, and (2) the first on-site infraction may immediately proceed to a fine, hold, or stop work order being issued without a verbal or written warning."

For all those who were already being a good neighbour, I appreciate you.
