Launched my first AI tool: Viral Hunter — Instagram Reels intelligence & breakout pattern detector (Built with Next.js 16 + Gemini)

Hey everyone! 👋

I just shipped **Viral Hunter** (https://viralhunter.in) — an AI intelligence platform that detects breakout Instagram Reels before they peak and turns viral frameworks into original scripts.

### 💡 Why I Built It:

As creators and marketers, we spend 2-3 hours daily doom-scrolling Instagram looking for content inspiration. But by the time a trend is on everyone's feed, it's already dead.

I wanted a system that:

  1. Surfaces Reels with abnormal velocity early (Breakout Detection).
  2. Scores them from 0–100 using quantitative engagement metrics (Viral Score).
  3. Gives you the exact psychological breakdown and script remix in 1 click.

### 🛠️ Tech Stack:

- Framework: Next.js 16 (App Router + Turbopack)

- Styling: Tailwind CSS v4 (Custom OLED Dark Mode design)

- Database & Auth: Supabase (Row-Level Security, PostgreSQL)

- AI Engine: Google Gemini Flash with automatic fallback chain

- Scraping: Apify Fallback Chain (Resilient actor failover)

- Payments: Razorpay Subscriptions (Free tier + Pro)

### 📈 Current Status:

Fully deployed, 100% test coverage (Vitest), responsive on mobile & desktop, and completely free to test out.

Would love any brutal feedback on the landing page, UX, or feature ideas from fellow builders!

I spent 3 weeks analyzing why reels with <5k followers hit 1M+ views while big accounts struggle

Most Instagram growth advice is complete fluff: "post 3x a day," "use trending audio," "engage for 15 mins before posting."

Over the last month, I tracked over 1,000 reels across business, fitness, and lifestyle niches to understand the actual data behind overnight breakouts.

Here are the 4 non-obvious patterns that actually moved the needle:

  1. The "Negative Framing" Hook Outperformed by 3.4x

Reels starting with positive advice ("3 ways to improve X") averaged 4k-8k views.

Reels starting with loss aversion ("The 1 mistake that's killing your reach right now") had a 3.4x higher chance of crossing 100k views. The brain reacts to preventing a loss much faster than gaining an advantage.

  1. The 2.5-Second Visual Interrupt

If a viewer doesn't see a change in visual state (punch-in zoom, text overlay pop, or sudden B-roll cut) within the first 2.5 seconds, retention dropped off by over 60%. The algorithm cuts Explore page distribution immediately when early drop-off is detected.

  1. The Save-to-Like Ratio is the Real Algorithm Currency

Likes are cheap vanity taps. The reels that continued gaining views 3 weeks after posting all had one metric in common: Saves were greater than 15-20% of total likes. High saves signal "high utility" to Meta, keeping your reel in suggested feeds.

  1. The Double Hook Formula

Every high-velocity breakout reel used both:

- Visual hook: Bold 1-sentence text promise in the upper third of the screen.

- Auditory hook: First spoken sentence delivering an immediate contradiction or curiosity gap (no "Hey guys" or intro music).

I wrote a small automated script to track these velocity signals and viral ratios for my own workflow.

Curious what other creators here are noticing with the recent algorithm updates? Has reach been consistent for you or completely hit-or-miss?
