Taraza’s plan
I finished Chapterhouse and I think the main thing I don’t get now is what Taraza is aiming for in Heretics. Here's the best I can figure:
THE FAKE PLAN: "We're gonna breed Sheeana (a girl who can control the sandworms) with an enhanced Duncan Idaho ghola."
THE REAL PLAN: "We want to goad the Honored Matres into destroying Rakis, leaving us in control of the sandworms and also a girl who we can build a religion around."
If that's correct, then Idaho, Miles Teg, and Lucilla are only there to panic the Honored Matres enough so they blow up an entire planet. The Bene Geserit don't actually have a specific use for Duncan Idaho. He is very clear he's not going to be their stud and it doesn't seem to bother them.
QUESTIONS:
- How did they know there was going to be a girl on Rakis who could control the sandworms? There were 12 unsuccessfully Duncan Idaho gholas before the one in the book. That makes it seem like they were working on the fake out part of the plan BEFORE they had Sheeana, the part of the plan they really cared about. They somehow knew she would pop up at that moment in history?
- What was so threatening about Duncan x Sheeana that the Honored Matres blow the whole planet? I think maybe the idea was to make Duncan seem so important and try so hard to get him to Rakis that they knew the Honored Matres would overreact even if they didn't understand the threat exactly: "We don't know what the Bene Geserit are planning but we're not going to let them get away with it."
- Trying to get an entire planet destroyed seems like a very extreme step for the Bene Gerserit to take, a level of coldblooded evil that I didn't know they were capable of. Sure, they implant religions all over the universe but I don't think we've ever seen them killing on such a massive scale. That's millions or billions of lives sacrificed just to get a strategic advantage... but I guess that's the kind of thing Paul or Leto II would do. Maybe it's a strategy that only a Reverend Mother could ever know about, the rank and file Bene Geserit absolutely would not be cool with it.
Nobody will go on my wooden coaster even though the stats look better than my steel coaster
I have spent probably 10 hours tweaking this wood coaster to lower the lateral g-forces below 3 and vertical below 5 (it started out much crazier). So far zero people have gone on this thing. But I have a steel coaster that is hugely popular, with even higher g-forces (see other image). I believe the entrance and exits are working - workers can access the coaster fine.
I have two theories.
- Wood coasters require different, lower stats than steel coasters. If I were to recreate the wooden design with a steel coaster people would love it.
- Because of the extreme length of the wood coaster, the overall g-forces need to be lower. A lateral g-force of 2.5 might be okay for a short coaster but it it happens repeatedly that's too much for guests. But I guess the stats wouldn't make that clear?
This is a bummer - not sure what to try now.
Why is no one riding my coaster?
So look, this is sandbox mode and I wanted to build a massive wooden coaster. Excitement, Fear, and Nausea are all at good levels, or at least acceptable levels. However, not a single person has ridden it yet. I've tried breaking and rebuilding the entrance and exit, no luck. If it helps, this roller coaster is at the top of a very high hill with a long spiral path leading up it. However, there's also a restaurant up there and people are walking up the hill for the food with no problem.
I suspect the g-forces too high, even though I'm not getting a warning. Is there a secret g-force number that can't be exceeded or else no one will go? I don't care about getting this super optimized to real world levels, it's just a fun fantasy design, but I DO want to see people riding it. (NOTE: I think in sandbox mode you should be able to change people's tolerance for insane rides.)
If I need to change it to get the g-forces down, I guess I can, but I like the way it is now! Does anyone know the max g-forces that guests will accept? (Also if there is really a max g-force, why doesn't it just give me a warning when I exceed it?)
