How do you go from learning a skill to actually being able to use it in the real world?

I'm currently learning SQL and FastAPI, and something I've been wondering is how people actually become good at a skill beyond just understanding the theory.

I'm not really looking for course recommendations (but if you know some great free resources, then please recommend). I'm more interested in the learning process itself. Once you've learned the basics, what did you do to become practically skilled enough to use it in real projects or even in a production environment?

How did you practice? What kind of projects or exercises did you do? How did you know you were moving beyond tutorials and actually building useful skills?

I'd love to hear the approach that worked for you, regardless of the technology.

Need ideas for a major project that solves a real-world problem

I’m a 4th-year B.Tech student, and we have to do a major project in a group. We’ve been struggling to find a project idea that actually feels worth spending 6+ months on.

I don’t want to build just another basic CRUD app or something that exists only for the sake of a college project. I’d like to build a software project that solves a genuine real-world problem, even if the problem itself is small.

If you’ve worked on something like this, have a project idea in mind, or know any interesting GitHub/open-source projects that could be expanded into a major project, I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Looking for something with enough scope for a group to work on for 6+ months.

How do you stay consistent with studying?

I’m a final-year B.Tech student preparing for placements/jobs, but I’m really struggling with consistency. I want to study every day and improve, but I get sleepy, bored, or frustrated pretty quickly, and then I lose momentum.

I’d genuinely like to know how students who study consistently every day manage to keep going. How do you deal with boredom, sleepiness, frustration, and those days when you just don’t feel like studying?

I know I need to become more consistent because I need to get a job, and continuing like this isn’t going to help. I’d really appreciate hearing what actually works for you.

Hii Everyone!

Our campus placements for Infosys are expected to begin at the end of July, and I'm preparing for the online assessment.

If you've already cleared the Infosys recruitment process, could you please share how you prepared? Which topics should I focus on, what resources helped you the most, and are there any common mistakes I should avoid?

Any tips, preparation strategy, or advice would mean a lot. Thank you in advance!
