Top floor of the law library today

So sick of people not respecting others. If you want to go and talk do it somewhere that is not a dedicated study space.

I have no idea who was talking but this was how loud they were when I was on the other side of the room.

I do not want to go and harass them I'm simply venting my frustration at the clear lack of respect for others.

If you can be heard through my music in my headphones you are speaking too loud.

I usually avoid this floor like the bubonic plague but there wasn't a lot of room on the third floor with charging points.

EDIT: This was not addressed towards one particular individual/group, this was about multiple groups doing to where the audio is only meant to show how loud it is in a designated silent study area. Over the course of a few hours I saw staff instruct a noisy group to go down to the first floor and after they left staying there and continue to be loud. Another staff member (a lecturer I think) came out of their office to go and tell people this is a quiet study space. I'm not a confrontational person but the point is that it is ridiculous that so many people are so blatantly ignoring other people and refusing to change behaviour when confronted.

Is there anywhere to study that's not freezing?

Why is it that none of the study spaces in Clayton has any level of heating? I am freezing right now

A reminder that this was going to be a 2 year trial and they are cutting it 6 months in

Melbourne girl, 14, faces 109 charges after allegedly mowing down cyclist in Brighton

My thoughts:

I mean shell try to get off all 109 chargers because she was under 14. I remember being that age and I knew at 10 that you shouldn't run people over with a car. Do I think that she would have had the full ability to reconcile what the consequences were in the moment, probably not but she should know it is wrong and she did know it was illegal.

This is frankly ridiculous she's may be let back out into the community and just going to reoffend and we're just meant to be happy with it. Like I can recognise on an intellectual standpoint that these kids are going to be worse off in adult jails and juvie. But at the same time there is no thoughts for the victim - it's borderline inhuman to go and say to these people that are suffering because of this that oh she's just a kid so y'know. Like I wouldn't go and tell the parents of the kid from Glen Eira secondary school that they should be okay with their child having permanent brain damage

Its very clear the current situation isn't working. There needs to not be a blanket rule of doli incapax, it needs to be different for different crimes. Whilst a 8 year old may not understand exactly what is wrong about shop lifting they can understand that they are not allowed to hit someone. Whilst a 13 year old may not be able to fully understand that slurs can be racial vilification they do understand that they are not allowed to RUN PEOPLE OVER WITH CARS.

Our judicial system is trying to be both Norway and America and we get the worst of both. Were too focused on punishment to rehabilitate and too focused on rehabilitation to allow for sufficient punishment for the victims.
