IM to oncology career outlook

Hello all. M4 looking to apply IM this cycle. Wanted to gain some insight as far as careers in oncology goes or if anyone had insight. Originally came into medical school planning to pursue oncology, and am really excited about it. If at a big enough practice, would love to find a niche in breast cancers. Would love to hear any career advice from residents pursuing this fellowship, fellows, and any heme oncs. If you had to do it again, would you? Are you satisfied with your career? Is the work overwhelming? Do you feel fairly compensated?
The only hesitation I have is admin work (charting, peer to peers/insurance denials, disability paperwork) — really did not enjoy this aspect of the clinic but no specialty is perfect. Welcoming all advice and insights for a med student applying to residency soon! TIA!! :)

Career outlook..passion vs lifestyle?

Hello all. I am a M4 working on my residency application — just wanted to know if anyone initially chose anesthesia for “lifestyle” versus passion. I am not the most passionate about heart/lung physiology, but really not super passionate about any specific physiology in general lol. My electives that I have rotated on include mostly supervising CRNAs, preops, and light PACU work. Some intubations and IV starts, but nothing super thrilling. I can also appreciate and understand the other side of the coin where work is extremely stressful (patient coding, hemodynamically unstable during a case), as I have seen these cases on electives. I do enjoy running cases on different units, fixing hemodynamics, and pharmacology. I do not mind the idea of taking call either. Was just curious if anyone decided on anesthesia or were influenced “lifestyle” (good compensation, shift work, no notes like IM/patients coming in with 20 problems for 1 visit in FM, PTO, etc), and whether or not you’re happy with your choice. All the physicians I have asked in person are all happy with their career, so I am curious if anyone has or has had similar sentiments as me. Input from any current residents or attendings would be great. Just looking for honest advice and career outlook. Possibly looking into pediatric fellowship after residency — on a peds anesthesia rotation now and am liking it! TIA!

Anesthesia career outlook..passion vs lifestyle?

Hello all. I am a M4 working on my residency application — just wanted to know if anyone chose anesthesia for lifestyle versus passion. My electives that I have rotated on include mostly supervising CRNAs, preops, and light PACU work. Some intubations and IV starts, but nothing super thrilling. Was just curious if anyone decided on anesthesia purely based on lifestyle, and whether or not you’re happy with your choice. All the physicians I have asked in person are all happy with their career, so I am curious if anyone has or has had similar sentiments as me. Input from any current residents or attendings would be great. Possibly looking into pediatric fellowship after residency. TIA!

M4 struggling to choose

Writing because I cannot make a decision on specialties and it has been weighing on me for a while... for context, 255+ on step 2 with well rounded application/strong leadership/class standings. Torn between Gen Surg or Anesthesia.

Never thought about doing surgery in medical school until I did my surgery rotation in December. Loved being in the OR, got along with residents and personalities well in surgery, liked the pace and have always seen myself as an extremely hard worker. Would also see myself sub-specializing in potentially surg onc. Worried about the way everyone talks about how miserable surgery residents are and how hellish surgical residency can be.

Had my first experience/elective with anesthesia and liked it as well, currently on another elective now. Liked being in the OR, still doing procedures in different locations in the hospital, and on top of pharm/phys. Also really enjoyed the personalities in anesthesia, all my attendings have been amazing and have been satisfied with their career choice and have lives outside of medicine which is really important to me.

I feel stuck trying to make a decision because I don't want to regret making the wrong one especially with applications due in September. Would love to know if anyone else has similar experience with navigating this or similar when it comes to residency and life afterwards

Thank you!
