Streaming Recs?

Looking for a good folk horror movie or similar vibe. I’ve seen a lot of the classics, like Blood on Satan’s Claw, Eyes of Fire, etc. and the modern go-tos like Midsommer, Frewalka, Caveat, Hokum, Oddity, Heresy.

Bonus points for Final Girl, scary faeries, there’s something in the woods, or anything with the ocean.

Also, I haven’t really seen anyone talk about Unwelcome, but I loved that movie too. The mix of humor was refreshing and the practical little redcaps were freakin’ awesome.

Sleep Token and Faith

Any other listeners practice some form of paganism or mysticism? I don't mean to speculate on the members of Sleep Token's beliefs. I've always viewed Sleep Token's own lore/mythos as theatre [which I also love], but they do utilize pagan, mythological, and occult references, and I really enjoy unpacking them as someone who does practice. I've long wondered if there were others who felt similarly, who were drawn to that side of Sleep Token's repertoire.

I also particularly like that they don't just reference or pull from one area of anything. From the occult to video games to classic lit, they are a web of many worlds colliding, and it all feels both respectful and interesting to see what they stack up next to each other.

Previous Post Playlist

Everyone was very kind on my last post and gave me a ton of recs, and I thought I would share the resulting playlist here. I took at least two songs from every artist, plus extras from Thornhill. I usually selected either one of the most popular songs or their most recent, and then a random song from their discography. Figured that was the best way to get a sampling. Anyway. Happy listening!

New Listener

Not gonna lie, Thornhill has been dancing in my recommended music for a while--I'm a big Sleep Token fan, and outside of them, Vianova, and Opeth, I don't listen to a lot of prog/metal/metalcore/metal adjacent music. I love Arctic Monkeys, The Last Shadow Puppets, Hozier, Kiki Rockwell, Fontaines D.C., etc.

I ultimately gave Thornhill a chance because of their impeccable covers on Triple J. At first, I did not love how shoegazey/numetal they got in their originals, but after a few listens, I cannot stop. They are super talented and interesting, which I suppose is probably not news to this sub, but I was curious as to their other listeners' musical tastes, and if y'all have any other fun recs or thoughts on the band.

Cozy Recs w/a Caveat

I read a lot of romantasy, and typically stick to the darker side of things, or at the very least, higher stakes plot lines, but I’m looking for a change! I have trouble finding cozy reads that aren’t pure fluff or aren’t poorly written… probably because most of my algorithmic recs tend to be for the dark/high stakes area. So… can anyone help me?? My preferences/tastes are below.

-Poly/RH/Queer all good for me, but not a requirement by any means

-I prefer human and human adjacent FMCs and MMCs, so elves, vampires, were-whatevers, fae, demons, etc. don’t care about horns or non human characteristics, but basically if it gets too far from human shape bodies, I don’t really love that (no judgement for those who do)

-No omegaverse (again, 0 judgement, it just takes me out of the story too much)

-Again, I really want something well written OR well voice acted!

-Don’t really have a preference for the type of ‘fantasy,’ can be high world building or closer to reality, ghosts, vampires, fae, etc etc.

Thanks in advance! I appreciate yall helping me find some comfort reads.

Mask Thoughts

So, as we know, the masks change album to album (or sometimes tour to tour).

Do we have any thoughts on what’s next? Either on their masks or costumes, especially with color and texture. Vessel’s mask and costume are on a specific evolution, whilst the others have a little more freedom, at least as far as the outfits are concerned.

The shift to green was interesting and very indicative of growth, and even the rustic skeletal base of II, III, and IV being so uniform was a surprise.

Does anyone have thoughts on colors or directions? All pure good hearted speculation, of course. I’d love to see any talented artists draw some ideas up! Or share thoughts on where we think the masks are going and why.
