Combining caps lock and backspace?

I have an Ergodox EZ that I last customized, according to my git log, almost 5 years ago. I now have a couple Keychron boards I'd like to modify. I modify the C files rather than using a web configurator.

What I'm trying to do will sound odd. I want the caps lock key to only be caps lock when held. If pressed quickly, I want it to be backspace. Some programs I have use caps lock as a modifier, so I have to hold it down like any other modifier. But I also love having backspace be my left pinky, so I want to do both.

Is Tapdance my only option here, or is there a simpler way to do what I want? Are there any problems with doing this that I'm not thinking of?

Reading data from FW13 fingerprint reader?

I'm toying with the idea of a homemade fingerprint attendance system for a small group, so I want to play with reading the data from a fingerprint reader. What I've found so far is that I can either interface with Windows biometrics, which I don't want to do since that means enrolling everyone in Windows Hello, or I can talk to the reader directly. The latter seems to be best supported by a reader with USB serial.

I already have a Framework. I'm wondering if there's a way to experiment with the data from my input cover's reader, rather than buying an external one. So far, I've only found details on the interface cable from the input cover to the motherboard, but that's not what I'm after. Is this possible, or am I better off finding an inexpensive USBER fingerprint reader and using that to experiment with?

the bottom of this pipe is very stuck

(This is my first photo post, so I don't know if I did it right.) I want to install a bidet, but this toilet is old and uses a pipe between the valve and the bottom of the tank. I have a hose to put in place of the pipe, so that I can have room to add the bidet's t splitter. I can loosen the plastic piece at the top (where the pipe meets the tank) just fine. The problem is the smaller nut between the pipe and the valve. When I turn it, the entire valve assembly moves. The nut itself is very stuck. This was installed in 1992 and has not been worked on since.

I know the likely problem is simply an old, possibly rusted nut. That, and I'm working with basic tools like a pair of locking plyers that don't want to lock and a cheap adjustable wrench. I plan to call a plumber soon--I'm sure even someone on their first day on the job could remove this pipe in about two minutes. But if I can get some advice and do this myself, that would be great. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Bog Standard Isekai: I now understand the hype

I started Bog Standard Isekai recently and am nearly done with book 2 already. I understand why most people here enjoy the series. TL;DR: if you like isekai stories, give this one a try. The writing is great, the characters are fun, the world feels fleshed out, and the story is, so far at least, interesting. Plus, if you get the Audible versions of the books, you can be read to by Jonathan McClain. That's never a bad thing. Oh, and for audio book people: the status screens become their own chapters partway through book 1, so skipping them becomes easier. Huh... That wasn't much of a TL;DR, was it?

Past this point, there are some spoilers for book 1, maybe book 2. Stop reading now if you don't want spoilers.

Still here? Okay then.

My main point of contension is this: why is this a regression story? Why did a twenty-something have to be stuck into the body of a thirteen-year-old? It seems to make no difference to the story, and all it does is introduce potentially awkward moments. I'd really love it if we could skip the mentions of the lack of a nudity taboo in this society, given that this re-sleeved adult man is hanging out with children of both genders. Just give this society similar privacy views as much of America, and we can avoid awkward implications. Or better, just have the main character be isekaied as an adult, and introduce him to his "father" in a different way. Why make him a young teen at all?

That aside, I stand by my first paragraph. This is a fun, very well-written story that deserves the hype it often receives.

I'm looking for a good lock with HomeKey or Aliro (not Aqara)

Basically: I want a lock with HomeKey or, better, Aliro. I have the Aqara U50 and I hate it, so no Aqara. I'm in the U.S. I'd like the keypad to be tactile, not touch, but that's not a requirement. What are my options?

I currently have two locks. Reagle shut down last year, so I can't re-add or calibrate that lock, but it still works well. It has no HomeKey or other features, but it does what it does quite well. I got an Aqara U50, which I absolutely hate. The app is awful, I can't get the auto-lock motion sensing thing to work reliably, and the app is AWFUL. I know I could use it in HomeKit mode, but that means no setting changes. I like a lot about the U50, like HomeKey at a good price, easy pairing and reset buttons, fast operation, and more. But the software makes it, and any other Aqara product, a non-starter.

What are good options these days, or am I better off waiting? Are there upcoming Aliro products that have been announced, or is it all still too new? I'll do HomeKey if I have to, but I'm trying to do Matter as I replace devices, so I'd like to do the equivalent with locks.
