1” Sensors

I don’t understand it, Sony and Canon are getting raves about their 1 inch sensors how great they are replacing the phone and convenient for compact size. Fuji has announced that it’s exploring the idea of a 1 inch sensor.

Micro for thirds continues to get slagged about the noise and other issues of the system. When combined with the smaller premium lenses and even the pro lenses that are considerably smaller. Yet they continue to get slagged.

Thoughts?

Lots of driftwood drifted up on the beach over this past winter. More images to come.

E-M1 Mk III Firmware 1.2

I just picked up a canon FD lens and adapter.

I have focus peaking activated, but I don’t see any sign of it when focusing. Am I missing something else in the settings that I may need to turn on or off?

Could this be a bug in the firmware requiring an update? I’ll do the update anyway but this may not be at issue.

Any suggestions will be welcomed.

I picked up this Canon 200 mm f4 SSC lens for $20 CAD at a thrift store. This lens barely looks used if it was used at all. There is no sign of fungus or haze.

I don’t have an FD to M43 adapter yet and recommendations would be welcome. I’m considering the Urth, Kipon and K + F adapters, but I’m open to other considerations. I’ll be using it on an E-M1 Mark III.

What have your experiences been with this lens on your M43 cameras? I’d love to see some shots.

Hi everyone, I’m using a Lumix G85 with the 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 as my primary travel lens. While the zoom range is convenient, the small aperture is a nightmare for low-light video (too much noise) and I can't get that "cinematic" bokeh I desire.

I’m looking to add one prime lens to my kit for low-light videography, travel, and portraits of friends. I’m torn between:

  1. LUMIX 25mm f/1.7: It’s versatile and natural, but I’m worried it might feel too similar to the mid-range of my zoom lens during the day. Also, it lacks O.I.S. (though I have IBIS on the G85).
  2. LUMIX 42.5mm f/1.7: The bokeh is gorgeous and the Dual I.S. 2 support is tempting for handheld video. However, I’m worried that the 85mm equivalent focal length will be too tight for indoor restaurants or narrow streets when hanging out with friends.

My main questions:

  • For low-light video, which one provides a more noticeable "cinematic" jump from the 14-140mm?
  • Is the 42.5mm too restrictive for general travel and casual social gatherings?
  • Or should I just stick with the 14-140mm and deal with the low light? Is a prime lens worth the extra space in my bag?

I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially if you’ve used this specific combo on a G85. Thanks!
