Good day everyone,

I am a 17-year-old male who will be entering Grade 12 next school year. However, I am still unsure about which path to take in college—whether to prioritize practicality or passion. Our financial situation is limited, as we come from a near-poor household. My parents’ combined monthly income is around ₱40,000, and there are only two children in our family.

Because of this, I’ve been considering alternative options. One of them is working as a freelance virtual assistant (VA), especially with international clients. I am very interested in trying this after I complete senior high school, particularly if I am unable to continue to college. For now, I see this as my Plan B.

I would really appreciate it if experienced freelancers or virtual assistants could share their insights. I have a few questions:

1.) What are the things you wish you knew earlier when you were just starting in this field?

2.) What are the common challenges you face as a virtual assistant?

3.) What are your usual tasks or responsibilities as a VA?

4.) Based on your experience, is being a VA difficult? What makes it easier or harder?

5.) How did you get your first client without experience?

6.) Are certifications or courses necessary, or can I self-learn?

7.) What skills should I learn first before applying?

Thank you so much for your time and advice. 🤍
