custom embossed OBSESSION steelbook for the original artist (paam.gph) commissioned by her boyfriend 🫶

I can finally share this project after her birthday.

This was commissioned by her boyfriend as a birthday gift. Had a huge fun to create the individual embossing layers and bring this idea to life.

Title and scribbles on front are embossed. The note on the back is embossed and the tape has raised gloss treatment on top.

[MK-M122] Obsession (2026) by Curry Barker
outside: original artwork by Amendine Paquis (paam.gph)
inside: vintage fanart by Christian Clegg

PAAM gave me the permission to craft this for others.
There will be a tip on top for the artist.

FYI: title will be adjusted to face downwards in future productions. This simply the original it was sent to me.

FIX for 5k2k OLED problems on Mac OS: Setting your display to 60hz and enable HDR

Edit// it's all about the HDR - the 60hz is just my limit in case of the M1. You might be able to use higher hz with HDR on newer chipsets.

I made a post before with problems about text fringing / halos when using the LG39 GX9 on Mac OS and using HiDPI 3840x1620 scaled resolution.

Native 5k2k on the 39" was fine (but everything tiny) and 2560x1080 was fine (but everything huge). Best resolution in terms of natural UI size for the 39" is 3840x1620 but it's leading to text fringing problems.

the problem was that you cant (or at least i couldnt on my M1 Macbook Pro) enable HDR when using it on the highest refresh rate (which was 100hz for me via USB-C / Thunberbolt cable on said M1 Mac).

Many people were complaining about Mac OS not being able to scale properly etc. when the resolution is not native or decided by 2 and hoping this will be fixed with an upcoming Mac OS 27 update.

Turns out:

If you set your hz down to 60hz you can enable HDR and it's another world..
Text clarity is perfect in dark mode and also much better for color editing now.. i see shades of black that i havent been able to differentiate before in photoshop file that was still opened..

Somehow also i realise the 60hz feel smoother now than the 100hz, i knew something was off..

So this is just a heads up, if you use an external monitor with HDR capability on your Macbook, try the 60hz HDR function.

5k2k on MacOS - LG 39GX950B settings ? First impression of text clarity is mediocre in HiDPI setting, native 5k2k makes everything tiny.

Edit//
i fixed it by enabling HDR.. which is only available in 60hz tho. No more of these halos. fine text in HiDPI dark scnearios.

Situation:

I got the 39GX950B yesterday.
I want to use it 70% for design work with my Macbook Pro M1 and 30% for gaming on windows (BF6 mainly rn). I mainly wanted to switch to 5k2k to get closer to a retina feeling and raise my ppi.

I am using the USB C / Thunderbolt cable that came with since the HDMI of the Macbook M1 is limited to HDMI 2.0 protocol so it cant do the 5k2k.

BetterDisplay tells me its running in 10bit SDR RGB Full Range

Problem:

While Windows looks very good, in both resolution and UI Element sizes / font size in explorer, browser, games etc i am bit underwhelmed when using it on MacOS.

I get these weird text clarity seen in the screenshot, halos on top and bottom.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but right now:

When using it in Mac OS you basically have 2-3 options:

1. native 5120 x 2160 resolution

Everything becomes very tiny (unlike windows where the general scaling and size of text and elements seems similar to my 3440x1440p Alienware).

In some Apps like Adobe Suite i can try to counter that by setting the UI size but that also leads to a huge UI when only using my Macbook Pro on the go. You just cant set anything only for use on this monitor.

Text clarity is mostly fine while everything is tiny.

2. 3840x1620 in HiDPI Mode

Perfect scaling - Finder, top taskbar and font sizes are similar to my 3440x1440p / my internal Macbook Display. This would be perfect. But i get weird text halos on top and bottom in dark mode situations (see image attached)

3. 2560x1080 in HiDPI Mode

No Halos, but everything is huge now of course.

---

The sharpness setting of the monitor itself is basically useless. You can turn it down and it gets smudgy af or you turn it up and just increase any halos and it looks artificially over sharpened very fast. Also it doesnt change anything about the halos in 3840x2160 which still gives me the best scaling to what i was always used to (retina display + 3440x1440p native, both having similar sizes in text and UI elements)

Why is windows able to get everything right out of the box with the native 5k2k resolution (sizing of text font in explorer and browser) while Mac OS is being a diva here again...

So all of this might not be the fault of the monitor, but MacOS - however, i am not sure if 5k2k is for me in this case..

edit//

right now i am realising - it's the dark mode that causes these halos..

light UIs with dark text on bright background are fine, but bright text on dark background is leading to these halos..

but again windows explorer in dark mode doesnt have this problem.

How are you guys using a 5k2k display with Mac OS ?

Im not sure the 39" Alienware with RGB Stripe will fix this ?

Thanks for some feedback on experiences especially on using 5k2k in Mac OS.

Manta Lab is love. Manta Lab is life — found a good way to catalogue these mini lentis

Also for KimchiDVD / Filmarena and their credit card format. Even more fun because they have double sided prints.

I just finished my most advanced custom yet — embossing on front, back & spine, holographic inside — [MK-M118] Annihilation (2018) by Alex Garland

Both sides with custom relief texture UV print. Even the spine has an embossed UV print. Inside on holographic photo paper.

Couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

I guess many have seen the insanely good music video by now:

https://youtu.be/x6\_mbnsh6VU?is=4oOreciJ1pCQh\_Zc

But while people rightfully praise the choreography.

Can we talk about how this scene was pulled off?

I don't think it's only perspective and the dancers are standing further away from each than it looks like. These dancers are so close to each other.

I personally think this was put together. Individually filmed dancers, rotoscoped, each speeding optimized to get this almost inhuman synchronization.

Im only on my phone now, but if you look at the feet of the dancers in 1 or 2 scenes it looks like they are slightly overlapping.

The light / shadows reactions look almost non existing. Despite the walking up scene.

I might be wrong - I just want to figure out how this was edited.
