Finally upgraded my gaming setup and couldn't be happier.

Finally I was able to upgrade my setup and really happy about the outcome. I know, the cable management could be better but I'll fix it someday.😅

Monitors:

- Odyssey G8 21:9

- Odyssey G9 32:9

- Xeneon Edge

The G8 feels perfect for watching movies, series, Twitch or YouTube while playing strategy games like CIV 5 or Football Manager.

Also have thrown my printer in the cabin cause I only use it like ones a year.😅

Some may wonder why I've put the monitors to the corner now. It honestly feels just nicer to me and I'm not as close to the screen as I was before which feels like a good thing especially with the G8 on top, so my neck won't start hurting at some point.😄

What you guys think?

Ascended to the ultrawide yesterday after receiving 49 inch qd oled monitor. It is indeed something you never know you needed until you have it.

Been gaming on LG C1 since 2021, so the colours and contrast are nothing new but view, hot damn it's good. Forza has never been this good.

Who's gone from UW to wide and regretted it?

I'm upgrading my computer after 8 years, and am currently on a 34" UW AOC 1440p 144hz VA monitor.

I'm looking into an OLED (possibly 4k) in the future, but am concerned about going from the curved UW to either a curved wide or flat OLED. I'm more concerned about going from curved to flat but also about the screen size difference.

Anyone change screen size and/or curved to flat and had to go back?

*edit *. To be used for gaming

Underwhelmed: LG 39GX950B vs AW3423DWF

After hastily selling the Alienware monitor to a friend, I am stuck with either exchanging the LG with an exact replacement or just return it and purchase what I basically already had.

To say the least, I am essentially disappointed in the "upgrade" that was this new $1800 monitor. I purchased the AW for about half the cost of this LG in early 2023 and I must admit that it is easily better than this new 2026 Tandem WOLED.

From Monitors Unboxed to TFTCentral, I watched many videos before purchasing the monitor, where they all stated that this monitor was just outright brighter. While I can see that argument for certain scenarios in SDR, the same cannot be made for the everyday average use case and video games alike.

I have tried every different type of setting option on the LG, Windows, and even the NVIDIA control panel with limited success. While the resolution is certaintly nice, alongside the increased size, the lack of "punch" across scenes truly make this monitor lackluster.

I've tried multiple games, including the recently launched Forza Horizon 6, and I'm left disappointed each time. The panel and monitor hardware seem to be working properly as well; it just does not get bright/vibrant enough.

I am open to all suggestions and advice, but I really did think this 5K2K panel at 39in would be the sweet spot, and unfortunately, it does not seem that there any other options.

Thank you for reading this and hopefully this can just be the misconfiguration of settings and not a valid piece of purchasing advice.

Hello, I have the g9 49 inch Samsung oled screen, and I’m trying to mount it onto the arm monitor. I’m having such trouble screwing in the vesa adapter it originally came with. Is it normal for the screws to be this way? I also can’t get the adapter to be flush when I try screwing these screws :(

Raybeam - A better way to screen share on macOS

Links

Problem

A few years ago I got my first ultra-wide monitor. It was a 49" Samsung monitor. I work as a software engineer, and in my line of work I need to screen share a lot. This almost immediately became a problem due to the size of the monitor. I would either need to get a second display just for screen sharing, share one window at a time (which required me to constantly stop/start sharing to select the new window), or share my entire screen making it difficult for other participants in the call to see what I'm doing due to the size of my display.

I wanted a solution to this. At the time, I was on Windows. So, I wrote a very basic application and released it for free on GitHub. This was called "FrameCast". It had a lot of issues, including usability issues. But at the time, it got the job done. After a while I moved away from the ultra wide monitor, so I stopped using the application.

Fast forward to 2026 when I again purchased a new Ultra Wide monitor. This time, using macOS. I ran into the same problem again, and when I loaded up my old FrameCast application, it no longer functioned properly on macOS.

This led me to creating Raybeam.

What is Raybeam

Raybeam is a native macOS menu bar application that aims to make screen sharing more accessible for users.

It features:

  • A draggable, resizable region of your screen that can be shared in video conferencing applications.
  • The ability to filter out specific applications from being included in the shared region (this is useful for keeping things like Messages or Discord out of the shared feed, even when they are visible on your screen)
    • I believe this is one of the key features that sets this application apart from other similar applications.
  • The ability to notate the shared region with hand drawn notation.
  • Customizable hot-keys for quickly changing what region of the screen is being shared, toggling the live feed and quickly toggling "draw" mode.

Compare

I'm only aware of one similar application to this, which is AnyFrame. Having purchased and tested AnyFrame, it seems to be very laggy when dragging the overlay around, doesn't offer anything similar to Raybeams "hidden apps" feature, and has a much higher barrier to entry with a $70 lifetime license. None of these are issues with Raybeam.

Pricing

I've tried to remain fair with the pricing on this application. I see far too many applications being released with subscription based pricing models that I don't personally believe are reasonable considering the application that's being offered. I didn't want to do that with Raybeam.

This application is priced at $9.99 for a lifetime license on the Apple App Store.

About Me

My name is Nathan. I have been working in software for around 15 years and normally focus on open-source software with my free time. I have many well received OSS projects across my GitHub. Raybeam is my first paid application. I'm excited to share it with everyone!

AI Disclaimer

While posting an AI disclaimer isn't required from what I understand in the PCP standards, I felt it would be reasonable to be fully transparent here. Parts of this application that were aided by AI include: The website (all video content was created and edited by hand without the help of AI) and some aspects of the applications user-interface and the applications icon / branding (I'm not much of a designer myself, I'm a back-end engineer.) The core functionality of the application was written by me in Swift.

Help me pick my first ultrawide

Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade to an OLED Ultrawide. I work in video editing, 3D production, and want to start some game dev on the side. So primarily productivity work, but definitely some gaming as well (some FPS but mainly narrative/RPGs so I'm not massively picky about refresh rate).

I'm basically deciding between the 34" MSI MPG 341CQPX QD-OLED and the 39" LG UltraGear evo GX9.

I'm currently using one 27inch 1440p IPS monitor with a small secondary display, so I think either option will be a significant upgrade. I have an RTX 5080 so should be able to drive most games on a screen that size without issue.

Obviously the LG is double the price, so I'm wondering if you all think it's worth it. Would I be content with the MSI or should I just full send it? lol

Also open to other options I may not have heard of.

Anyone using the DeWalt DCS356D1 multitool? Worth it at $100?

I was trying to slow down on buying new tools for a bit, but seeing the DCS356D1 at $100 might ruin that plan. 😄😄 Seems like a pretty solid deal with the battery kit included, do you think it's worth it at this price?

KEF LS 50 W II. LLM is saying I am "choking" the speakers and killing the soundstage by keeping them that close to the monitor. Is it true? Currently its a proper equilateral triangle to my seating position btw.

LG 39” 5K2K monitor and Nvidia 4080 Super

I own an Nvidia 4080 Super and just purchased the LG 39” 5K2K(39GX950B-B) monitor. Does my video card support the 5k2K resolution at 165hz refresh rate? I’ve read it does using DIsplay Stream Compression. I want to make sure.

LG 5K2K Starfield Display Recommendations

Is anyone else playing Starfield on an LG 5K2K monitor? I didn't have any issues playing at the beginning of the game but late game I am getting really low FPS, I can get it below 10 FPS, when I am on a planet. It seems worse when I am wearing my speedster suit and aerial boost pack.

l am playing on Ultra with a 4090, 13900K, SSD, and 64gb ram. I have the game capped in my Nvidia control panel set to 60 FPS. I am wondering if that is just too much monitor for ultra settings especially with how fast I can move with the upgraded suit and pack. The first time I played the game it was on a 4K monitor and didn't run into issues but I also didn't get nearly as far in the game.

Good ultra wide editing monitor that won’t bankrupt me

Hey I wanted to get yours guys suggestions about a new monitor. Currently I am using a lg curved QHD 1440p 34 inch monitor with 160hz, and I’ve had it for a bit over 3 years now and it’s a great monitor for day to day tasks, but the editing any pictures or videos on it suck. I’ve played around with the setting a bit to see I can make it work but the colors aren’t just not right. Anything I’ve edited on the monitor look very off on other devices. I’ve been just doing everything on the actual MPB display for now but am looking to make a upgrade soon, but I’m having trouble finding any ultra wide bigger then 45 inches that would fit my needs under $750ish, everything seems to be well over $1000. I am looking for a decently large display that is at least 4k with 120hz or higher. I do also have a pc I use pretty much use exclusively for games so having decent performance there would be nice but not as important. Any ideas or suggestions would be nice. Also i was planning on stacking my current monitor on top of whatever I get next and would like to know if anyone has done that before and found it worth while or was it too impractical to keep looking up. Thank you

What kind of frames is everyone getting with a 5090 @ 5k2k?

I'm not a e-sports player, but I do play shooters like Cyberpunk, and a large variety of other things like Alan Wake, Dead Space, scam citizen, city builder games, and lots more. With some of the more demanding titles, and the graphics at, or near max, what are your guys' max framerates looking like? How much MFG do you have to add to see around 165hz?

I'm super tempted to go 39" 5k2k from an older IPS 34" 3440x1440, so going OLED is going to be a pretty nice upgrade either way, but keep waffling between 39" 165hz or staying 34" and going for a 360hz monitor especially with one being significantly cheaper.

I also do game dev and programming, so definitely going for the newer panels for that text clarity.

I have 120hz now, so idk how much better 240hz or more feels over 165hz.

Bonus question: is there any point in waiting for more panels to come out this year? I assume they'll all have roughly the same specs? I'd love to go glossy, but isn't realistic for my lighting situation.
