Running T2 Ubuntu on Macbook Pro 2019 16.1 (a2141) is the best thing ever

its been 10+ months that i am Zorin on an old desktop I have.

And 4 months ago I bought a used Macbook Pro for 300eu (after selling some crypto) and started my Linux journey. Spend another 180 for battery change

I know that Macbook Pro hardware are quite capable, even in 2026 with 2019 specs!!

I distro hopped Zorin, Mint and now Ubuntu.

Ubuntu T2 is by far the most stable for this Apple hardware. The previous two were very unstable for reasons I cannot explain but the T2 devs told me to go with Ubuntu.

I never liked laptops, but OMG this thing is amazing.

First of all i cannot explain how amazing is to type on THIS keyboard. Never owned anything Apple before.

4k Screen? CHECK

5-6 awesome speakers? CHECK

AMD gpu with decent gaming capability? CHECK

16GB ram and 500GB SSD? CHECK

Could I get more specs with that money on a Windows laptop?

maybe.. but the sheer built quality and screen/keyboard/speakers combo are totally worth it!!

Guys, Apple hardware with Intel chips are near their end of Life.. and they depreciate! Throw a T2 Linux on it and will get at least 5 years more out of it.

Cheers!!

I panicked and sold. It wasn't my plan

Unfortunately I lost my job as a Digital Marketeer 1+ month ago and it was sudden and brutal!!

I've been watching Pi's decline recently and yesterday I made the move.

I sold 6500 unlocked Pi in OKX.

At the moment I am under immense survival pressure.

I still have 2500 locked Pi until the end of the year.

It's disappointing that the price is loosing value every day.

Any one else panic-sold these days??

Booting and power off issues on Macbook Pro 16inch 2019 (a2141)

hi all,

I did a fresh install of Mint on my Macbook (no other OS on my system now). I used the dedicated ISO t2. But i have issues with booting and power offs

  1. Sometimes it shuts down fine, other times the keyboard lights and fans stay on

  2. Sometimes it power ups fine, other times I hear the fans, nothing on the screen. And i keep forcing power off

  3. When I press the power up button there is no indication that laptop is powered on (like a led light that you usually see on other laptops)

  4. Sometimes it boots straight into the desktop, other times it stays on the log-in screen and wants password

  5. I spent most of my time on failed boot loops and trying various keyboard combinations until it decides to boot.

i asked several AI models (grok, gemini, claude) for help without any actual result.. i tried refind booting which was worse.

Can anyone please help me??

at the moment grub looks like this:
GRUB_DEFAULT=0

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

GRUB_TIMEOUT=0

GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`( . /etc/os-release; echo ${NAME:-Ubuntu} ) 2>/dev/null || echo Ubuntu`

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="intel_iommu=on iommu=pt acpi_osi=Darwin pcie_ports=compat acpi=force"

I got this Macbook Pro because of Pi

While Pi is free falling, I made an investment.

I converted Pi into 300eu for a used Macbook Pro 16 inch 2019 model. (was 2700eu brand new!).

Yes I know that it's "old", but I installed Linux on it (not as seen on screen) and I will use it as a tool for my brand new eshop investment.

Yes I made an eshop (not pi related) with clothes and shoes from popular brands and I am throwing myself at it.

If you want to help a fellow Pionner, let me know and I can send you the link.

Cheers.

P.S: I hope the freefall stops because i will need more funds for advertising
