Furubira impressions?

Hey guys. Has anyone in this sub spent any significant time in the town Furubira, to the west of Otaru? If so, what did you think of it? Please let me know as I’m considering renting a place there on the new year :)

Looking for a place to stay in Sapporo or Otaru from December 2026

Hey guys! Posting again because I am planning to move to Hokkaido from the UK this December/early January, for around 3-6 months.

Been looking for places and I am seeing some decent options on Airbnb but I thought there is no harm posting here, as this community is consistently helpful and accommodating, and maybe someone has a spare room or a flat they are looking to sublet or something.

I am a man in my early 30s, my budget is no more than 80000yen per month, and my Japanese is not great but I’m working daily to improve it conversationally. I am a really big guy (6’4) but I am very hygiene conscious and domestically adept.

Looking in Sapporo, Otaru or any of the surrounding areas. Tbh, I’m kinda open to anywhere in Hokkaido if it’s within budget, but Western Hokkaido would be best.

PLEASE if you think you could host me or you have a friend who could, please hit me up! I want to change my life and try something I never thought could be possible in the past.

Thank you in advance!

Planning to stay in Hokkaido for 3 months (advice)

Hey all,

I am a man in my early 30s planning to move to Hokkaido at the end of the year from the UK for a minimum of three months (mid to late December 2026 until mid to late March 2027).

I’ve visited Hokkaido three times (including the peak of winter); I absolutely love it and have experience already being there and in other parts of Japan. My Japanese is not great but I am trying to improve daily and I’m very extroverted so I know I can pick it up, at least conversationally

Ideally I would like to be situated in Western Hokkaido (Sapporo, Otaru or Niseko) but I am open to other large towns/cities. My projected budget for accommodation is 100k yen per month.

Does anyone have advice for being there for that long / finding places to stay? And is anyone looking for a housemate? Any other suggestions for things I should consider would be greatly appreciated too 🙏🏾

I found this exchange between Sugimoto and Asirpa to be absolutely hilarious

First time reading the GK manga (I’ve watched the manga several times). Something about it tickles the fuck outta me 😹 Noda is a genus of character writing, for creating a dynamic with so much emotional breadth that this makes perfect sense

Hey guys, I’m going to be in Sapporo / Hokkaido from today until Friday. Does anyone know of any arcades in Sapporo that have Densha De Go available to play? Will also happily travel to Otaru, Hakodate or other cities and towns in Hokkaido to play lol
