Using Power Functions on non-motorized trains sets

i’m trying to get a couple of trains for my kids to play.

We already own some Power Functions stuff (including a train motor, IRs, controllers, battery boxes…) that my kids have used for Technic stuff.

Now about getting the trains - I see different brands with their own motors and controllers (or even apps, which I want to stay away from).

I’m thinking that my approach is going to be getting some more Power Function parts, and buying trains without motors, and then use the PF parts to motorize them, to “standardize” the motors and controllers to one single “brand”.

Would that make sense?

Do you recommend any train set I can get off Ali that would be easy to stick the PF parts in?

Motorised Train Sets for kids?

My kids (7 and 9) have been asking for Lego trains for years.

I have always found the Lego trains to be so expensive, like the 60337 set (Passenger train) running at 160 euros.

Now they want to spend their savings on that one, and I just feel like for that amount of money they’ll get a train that just goes around a track, and in terms of play there isn’t much more to do unless you spend even more money in more tracks, etc

Any advice on how to go around this with other brands? Do you recommend any set that can be then expanded with more sets and tracks?

Thanks

How to get into Lego trains without breaking the bank

My kids (7 and 9) have been asking for Lego trains for years.

They already have other train sets (wooden set, duplo) but nothing with motors. They do have so many wooden tracks and bridges that they build some crazy layouts all over the living room and have played the hell out of them for years.

I have always found the Lego trains to be so expensive, like the 60337 set (Passenger train) running at 160 euros.

Now they want to spend their savings on that one, and I just feel like for that amount of money they’ll get a train that goes around a track, and in terms of play there isn’t much more to do unless you spend even more money in more tracks, etc

Do you have advice on how to go about this? Any way to get into Lego trains without breaking the bank?

Thanks
