what's the consensus on j. crew in 2026?
reading r/malefashionadvise over the past year has opened me up to really high quality brands i'd like to start adding to my wardrobe eventually, but i'm not sure where this leaves j. crew in comparison. this fall, i'm looking at j. crew's...
- - chinos (broken-in straight & classic)
- - ocbd's (broken-in & 1983)
- - cotton sweaters (1988 rollneck, heritage cotton crewneck, heritage cotton quarter-zip)
- - washed pique polos
- - classic straight jeans (100% cotton, japanese selvedge)
- - baird mcnutt irish linen shirts
if these can be found on pretty deep discount, is it still worth building a base wardrobe with? i'm trying to decide if i want to do this and then slowly add more expensive pieces from kamakura, j. press, levi's premium, buck mason, etc. over time - or if overall j. crew quality isn't worth it anymore.
