Need Advice: Medical Student Looking to Start a Career in Medical Coding
Hello po! I am currently a 3rd-year medical student and a graduate of a Biology program. I'm interested in exploring medical coding as a part-time job in WFH set up sana to help finance my remaining two years in medical school while also gaining valuable experience and practical skills in the healthcare industry.
Although I have limited experience in medical coding itself, I believe na have a strong foundation naman in medicine, anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and other clinical subjects because of my educational background. I would love to hear your thoughts and advice po.
- Do you think I have a good chance of entering the medical coding field despite wala akong formal coding experience yet?
- Is my medical education an advantage, or should I expect to start from scratch like everyone else?
- What certifications or training and mare- recommend for someone with my background?
- Are there companies willing to hire beginners or trainees, especially those who are still in medical school (for those na ganiton situtaion sakin)?
- If you were in my position, what would be the best roadmap to become employable as a medical coder as soon as possible?
- Do you have any tips on how I can build my skills or strengthen my application while still studying medicine?
I would really appreciate any advice or insights you can share 🥹. Thank you so much po!
