Casual / Hobby Runners - how did you adjust your training?

hello! reaching out to my fellow runners who are definitely runners but not quite as experienced or athletic?

I’ve been running regularly for about a year now, 3-4 runs a week, two half marathons and several fun 5ks. First trimester I absolutely tanked and ran maybe once? I am now 15 weeks, feeling better, and am believing I can run a half in September if I start training now.

Are there any strategies y'all recommend for training pregnant - walk/run intervals, adding a minute or two to pre-pregnancy pace? More pre-run fueling? Mid-run snacks? Anything you’ve felt has made the difference that’s allowed you to keep running enjoyably?

thank you!!

3+ time moms - why is this harder?

Curious if anyone else is having a similar experience.

I had my Eldest 4.5 years ago, my second 2.5 years ago, and now pregnant with #3. I will be 32 when this baby is born.

I really thought this pregnancy was going to be a breeze - I’ve done it twice before and have had stayed and active and fit postpartum and beyond.

but oh man….this is so hard? I am finally back in the gym as of 11 weeks, now 14 weeks, after a difficult first tri. Everything feels like a slog. When I conceived , I was so confident that I was going to complete a half marathon in September and now I am fully confident I won’t.

Again, maybe it’s just age, and all pregnancies are different, but anyone feels like their third or older go around is kicking their butt?

Beware false spring

This is me coping with humor but this is pregnancy #3 for me, 9.5 weeks, and I was duped by ”false spring“ yet again!

I live in a rainy state and every March we have a sunny stretch where we all rejoice just to be reminded that it is not yet indeed spring as it rains through April, and we always call it false spring.

The first trimester has a false spring too. Usually around 8-9 weeks, your symptoms disappear for a few days, you’re eating better and have more energy, life is good. Well I signed up for a bunch of morning work out classes this morning for the next week, so excited to move again.

By dinner time I was gagging at the some of green onions my husband chopped for my potato and down bad. I cancelled my classes.

All this to say, if you have also been duped by false spring, just know that second tri is around the corner for real, and it will get better.

3rd Pregnancy - No Motivation

Title sums it up.

Im 8 weeks with baby #3 and for whatever reason I cannot find the will to care to workout. Ive had two prior fit pregnancies so I know and have felt the benefits, but maybe its because Im busy with 2 kids already, because I’m older, because I know ill be having a c-section, or something else. I just feel different this time.

Any third timers feeling the same way? If so what’s motivating you to stay up after bedtime or wake up before work to get those workouts in? My last two pregnancies my motivation was an uncomplicated vaginal birth and then a VBAC. With #3 we’re going straight to c-section and so in like “eh, what’s the point?”

Any words of encouragement to put a pep in my step is much appreciated.

Signed - a mom currently in a warm bath after getting the kids down, instead of working out.
