Earbuds connecting to a WiFi home door lock, that I did not pair.

So I have had an issue that has been driving me crazy for weeks. I listen to audiobooks while I tend to my garden and for the last several weeks every time I come and go from the house I hear "connected" or "disconnected" as I pass in and it f the house, briefly interrupting the audiobook that I'm listening too. I made sure no other devices were connected to my earbuds and it's been super annoying so I sat down to try to figure out what the buds could be connecting to.

Almost immediately after typing in the question I start hearing a repetitive whirring noise, and I pause my book and go looking for the source of the noise. It's coming from a fairly inexpensive house door lock with a fingerprint reader that I have charged but not installed yet, because it never really worked properly, so it's still sitting in its box on the table. Not wanting to deal with it immediately I leave the lock to its whirring noises and go back to reading about what my earbuds may be connecting to.

Someone recommended putting the earbuds in a microwave to possibly reset any connections, so I do that, and immediately the whirring noises from the lock stop.

Does anyone have any ideas about wtf is happening?
