Saturday whinge - Apps and pages trying to entrap our time.

I am pissed off... So many Apps and URLs now try to entrap our time and not only via algorithms.

Lets start with URLs(Web pages)..

CBA pages has a yellow logoff "menu item" and if you don't use it or the page then page will time out.

All of this to reduce the risk of hacking. Well done CBA.

My Super fund sent me a link.

After 2 factor identification I open the page it has my super annual report , update your details .. but there is no way to logout... whether it is timed out is up to them... It is stupid and dangerous as increases the risk of a successful hack of my lifetime nest egg.

I know by clearing history and restarting the bowser I can force pages to time out... Not many do or bother.

Now many web sites hide logout button/menu Item..it is very annoying.

When you close or logout from a App many things could happen..it can still run in the background, stay memory resident ... or quit and be removed from RAM...

Many Apps now want to stay active .. like some of our TV channel Androids Apps ... simple Apps closure is ignored or does not exist.... you have use force quit and even then it may not work.

Does it matter?

It does RAM resident App use your device resources and may use the web.

It matters more so if you have your info stored within the App that can be hacked.

When I finish watching footy on my android tablet I like to simply to quit the App.. not be "advised" about shows .. then search for button(s) to close the App..

Even universal Android App close sometimes does not work.

Error by AI scribe during medical appointment leaves patient devastated

I am ancient IT consultant who knows how AI works and run local AI models on my Mac.

I see 4 specialists - urologist, haematologist, oncologist and dermatologist which is a result of smocking but I am still kicking.

My urologist retired and my new urologist ask me to sign AI consent form.

While saying he is not using AI he was dictating notes using AI enabled tool to make notes..

This is what we called  AI enabled voice to text( converting voice to text) and we know how unreliable it is.

I talked to my GP and she told me it was now common practice for specialist to use AI to create notes and reports. Instead of a half page summary she was getting pages and pages of text... AI slop..

This dangerous as AI slop is not verified by a specialist and/or read in full by GP.

I search Google and it says:

General practice (GP) time is now compromised by wading through low-value artificial intelligence text, causing professional frustration, lost productivity, and cognitive fatigue.

Faced with AI slop we mostly don’t read it ,rejected or just accept it. It is a known problem.

In medicine AI slop could be fatal. In law life changing…

This is just an impact of Voice to Text AI.

There is more...

We have been using Analytical AI for decades.. It produces analysis which a human interprets it.

Generative AI/LLM analyses and then interprets its result and it has high error rate ranging from 5% to 100%(Google “AI error rates”).

UK NHS has released some of its records for analytical AI analysis used in research not to write medical reports.

Generative AI/LLM models used to produce medical reports could be even more dangerous than AI slop,

If AI was beneficial ,reliable and benign why AI consent form?

Are doctors covering up for AI errors (hallucinations)?

My urologist is happy creating massive documents which nobody reads..

At personal level I find it very offending that my urologist charges me $200 per visit and uses $5 AI tool that I can use.

I am paying for his human knowledge , expertise and AMA accreditation not for some AI /LLM model cooked up in Silicon valley or lately in China.

I want my doctor to be a human doctor who still thinks fax machine is high tech. I will worry about AI.

If you think you are immune from AI impacts think again.

Dear Albo it is time for regulations.

Apple warns of future 'supply constraints' for Mac, iPhone, iPad

Apple the world champions of supply logistic are now pressured by AI stampede..

Since Covid supply chain disruption many companies shifted some production to in house ... Will Apple do it?

Google says:

43 countries to make a single iPhone, with key contributions coming from the United States, Taiwan, and Japan. [1, 2]

Apple Mac is a global effort relying on components and assembly processes spanning over 40 countries.

I think we should elect Apple to run UN(LOL).

AUKUS

Ukraine , Iran and AI wars are changing how wars are fought.

Made for profit expensive US made weapons are being overwhelmed by mass produced cheap drones.

Ukraine has no nuke subs and is winning Baltic sea battle. in fact it has no human manned subs.

Is Trump "Winning" Iran war with nuke subs?

I am not a war expert but is having few human manned nuke subs is the right answer?

I suggest AUKUS needs an honest review.

12.5% tariff on Australian imports to USA

The Trump administration has officially finalized a permanent 12.5% tariff on Australian imports under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, citing allegations that Australia has inadequately enforced bans on goods produced by forced labor.

Prison labor produces roughly 0.04% to 0.05% of the total US Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Reports from organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) estimate that incarcerated workers generate at least $11 billion in goods and services annually,

There is no official or measurable percentage of Australia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) generated by prison labor.

Who is using forced labour?

24 hours to update iMessages on my Mac - Not acceptable

Yesterday my doctor sent me two text messages (scripts) to my iPhone ...

No problems with iPhone.

In Australia most scripts are now being sent by SMS.

These were created by a cloud based medical App.

On Mac tried synch .. restart. ... messages arrived in my Mac 24 hours later(exactly weird) .

Looks like there is a problem with iCloud.

Opens Source and Homebrew under attack by AI Vibe Coding

Flood of AI 'garbage' is pushing open-source developers to the limit

Source New Scientist – 5 June 2026 article by Matthew Saprkes

Many projects are blocking new contributors in a bid to stem the flow of what has been labelled “drive-by contributions” generated by AI, often submitted by young developers who want to have an expansive GitHub submission history to boost their appeal to software-company recruiters. Zig Software Foundation, which promotes the Zig programming language, banned AI-assisted contributions because they were “invariably garbage”, said its president Andrew Kelley.

“AI-written code can look superficially like it’s going to work and not cause any problems, but the problems are a bit more hidden and it takes a lot of effort to comb through and look for the things that might break something,” says Miranda Heath at the University of Edinburgh, UK.

Homebrew

Developer Mike McQuaid, who works on a project called Homebrew that has an estimated 20 million users, has strong opinions about how to fix the problem.

Firstly, he started an initiative called the Open Source Resistance, which calls on people to work on projects during their day job to make contributing easier. He estimates that as much as 95 per cent of his open source work is done during office hours.

Secondly, he’s not afraid to ban people. He blocks any problematic users, including one who physically threatened his team, and simply deletes any sub-par code submissions, whether they’re AI-generated or not.

This is serious threat to Open Source Apps and our beloved Homebrew.
