Please help I’m going crazy (Vintera II Mustang setup)

This is a Vintera II MIM Mustang. It plays well, but the strings have always hit the back of the bridge, no matter what I try. I’ve tried full pocket shims, little cardstock shims, and even reversing full pocket shims. No matter what shim and bridge height I test, the strings still hit the back of the bridge.

Totally wired guitars on YouTube says mustangs should have a minimum space of 2mm between bridge and pickguard for best tuning stability, so I’ve been respecting that. I tested bringing the bridge down to 2mm, and had to use a 1 degree shim reversed in the pocket to get there. Strings still hit. This is what’s shown in the photo.

I’m honestly baffled. Do I just need a bridge upgrade? Do other people have this problem?

To think I almost sold this Jaguar

This song has a slow start (instrument changes will do that), but I had fun making it. The guitar is my American Vintage Reissue 62 Jaguar in Candy Apple Red. For a long time I didn’t gel with it (and it’s very vintage pickups), and I even listed it on Reverb once. Thank the gods it didn’t sell. It has become my number one. I often start playing a tune on my other guitars but somehow I always end up back on this one as I finalize it.

My first post gave me confidence to try again, thanks to everyone in this sub for encouraging (and enabling) me. I realize this is a gear sub, is there a better place to post this kind of thing, with a similar audience? I don’t want to overstay my welcome with these types of videos. I’m not in a band, nor am I promoting anything. Just having fun and wanting to share with others.

De-Floyded my strat with a bone nut and Schaller Vintage tremelo

First ever guitar, purchased new back in the year 2000. I knew nothing back then and allowed the guitar center salesman to sell me on a Floyd Rose setup because I liked “the option of playing some heavy stuff”. It’s been a great guitar over the years but I never actually wanted what a Floyd rose offers, and now that I’m older, I actually hate it. Sharp metal everywhere makes it uncomfortable to play, the metal nut sounds tinny, and string changes are laborious.

My dislike of the Floyd Rose made it so I rarely picked up this guitar, which is a shame because it has tons of sentimental value and is great in every other way. I know my modifications will devalue the guitar, but it I will never sell it, so none of that matters.

Details on process:
NUT
Removing the Floyd rose nut was super easy. Just unscrew two screws and it falls right off. I used a reshaped bone nut from stew Mac for the replacement. I did have to craft a small 1/16” wood shim from some maple veneer that I had lying around, but other than that the fit was really good.

BRIDGE
The bridge was supposed to be a drop in replacement from Schaller. I don’t know why, but this was not the case. The new tremelo hit the side of the cavity before the knife plate met the bridge posts. I addressed this by filing out some wood from inside the cavity. I was not crazy about having to do this, but it is not visible and I REALLY wanted to get rid of that Floyd Rose, so out came the file. I got to say, Schaller builds some quality hardware. It really feels premium. I was foolish and bought it off of Thomann without fully understanding what the tariff would be. I knew there would be some tariff but didn’t realize how much ($37 total I think). So that sucks but at least I have my new bridge to console me.

As the British would say, I’m chuffed ‘bout me nut! British people don’t correct me you know I’m right

Great guitar, terrible playing

My American Vintage Reissue 62 Jaguar in Candy Apple Red. I love how picking up different offsets in my collection inspires me to play new things seemingly at random…. then i promptly forget how I played it. Forgive my sloppy mistakes, I didn’t want to have to record it again. First time I’ve ever posted myself playing anything
