Coolant Problem
Edit: Thank you for the advice everyone! I will start with replacing the overflow tank and coolant tubes and if the issue still isn't resolved I'll result to head gasket replacement. Unfortunate that the seller lied about condition of car but I only paid 1.3k for it so I'll still consider it a win even if shes got a few issues needing fixed.
Hello, This is my first time owning a land rover I found a 2000 D2 on FB marketplace with only 118k miles and got a really good deal for it. Seller originally told me there were no issues with it and then we got there to check it out and he told me it needs a new battery... so he had to jump the car for us to even test drive it but a new battery is an easy fix so not a big deal. We test drove it for 10 minutes, everything seemed fine except for the what everyone calls "The three amigos" lights being on. So we decided to take it home. On the way home and the temperature guage goes all the way up and red light turns on. Text the seller to ask about any overheating issues and he says probably just needs coolant. We put coolant in it filled it all the way to the top and then drove it around the block to get gas. Was fine for 10 minutes then temperature guage goes all the way up and red lights on again. Popped the hood and the reservoir is smoking from the cap and it is completely empty as well as coolant is sprayed all over the engine. The overflow hose from the reservoir is bent upwards compared to other photos I've seen its suppose to be bent down. There's no leaks under the car and no other signs of head gasket failure, (no milky oil, no exhaust smoke) could it possibly just be a bad cap or is that overflow hose facing the wrong direction the problem? Just looking for some advice on next steps, much appreciated, thank you! Sorry the photos were taken at night I can take lighter ones tomorrow morning if needed.
