Updated Sunbreak LBG Builds (Progression & Endgame) - 2026 Edition

Rejoice, for the Sunbreak LBG Progression and Endgame Guide has received a total overhaul in the big 2026!

Unlike other modern MH titles, Sunbreak's armor meta cannot ever truly be "solved", as Qurious armor augmentation introduces far too much variability from one player's account to the next. At the time of Sunbreak's final title update, it felt like build-making was totally open-ended; conversely, this made guide-writing all the more difficult. Three years have passed since then, however, and theorycrafting has come a long way.

This updated guide represents the culmination of three years of efforts to provide easy-to-follow progression sets that adequately prepare the player for key difficulty spikes; to incorporate efficient comfort skills into builds to help the average player deal with Sunbreak's aggressive roster; and to make reasonable endgame builds that don't require hellish RNG.

Notable changes include:

  • massive priority increase on Dereliction, the strongest comfort skill in the game (unironically!). In addition to being one of the largest per-point damage increases possible for ele (and still great for raw), it combines with Dango Self-Kelp to turn the otherwise detrimental HP drain into comically large guaranteed damage reduction. Combine with Bloodlust and Intrepid Heart for best results. Melee players may scoff at this, but recall that surviving hits is not normally something that Ranged players get to do, so the trade-off of HP drain is well worth the ability to periodically live instead of dying. (Dereliction is worth it anyway because of the superb damage increase it confers, but people think the drain is way scarier than it actually is and may be inclined to drop it without realizing that they're making the game harder.)
  • Evade Extender 1 in most builds. 50% increased roll distance completely transforms how many matchups can be played; many attacks that would have normally taxed a wirebug to Counter can instead be rolled, enabling more aggressive positioning and better uptime.
  • Greater emphasis on Rapid-Fire guns. Better ammo economy (often preventing a restock), faster Intrepid Heart buildup, and oftentimes superior gun characteristics (compared to abominations like Khezu gun's stationary shooting) make this a no-brainer. SF guns are still great for speedrunners but this guide does not apply to you (Gorm S3 is good tho).
  • Bloodrite/Blood Awakening deprioritization. These skills, though powerful in many matchups, fall apart in some of the hardest fights in the game, yielding disappointing uptimes against monsters like the Risen Elders whose parts break relatively late into the hunt. Furthermore, with Dereliction + Dango Kelp + Bloodlust + Intrepid Heart, the most dangerous part of the hunt is in the very beginning before your defensive skills can ramp up, which Bloodrite does nothing to solve. Perhaps most damning, though, is that they are simply too expensive to accommodate on builds, forcing key armor pieces like Kushala chest (godlike skill efficiency) and Archfiend boots (dereliction my beloved) to be replaced with PMal's frankly mediocre pieces.
  • Updated matchup chart. Sunbreak enthusiasts have pushed the game a lot in the last three years and this is simply reflective of the community's improved understanding of how to kick the roster's teeth in. Note that this is targeted at a more casual audience; for example, Gold Rathian speedruns favor Thunder ammo, but using Spread on its legs to make it repeatedly fall over is far easier to execute while not losing much DPS, so the chart accordingly recommends the latter.

Currently the guide has skill priorities, progression sets, endgame builds, and the updated matchup chart. The hope is to eventually expand the guide to include more general LBG info, but the authors decided to publish the guide in the Oops! All Builds state due to unusually high recent demand for Sunbreak LBG builds. Feedback is welcome as always. If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Big thanks to RadiantSnowfall, Damo, and Crowsfoot for making this guide a reality (I am merely posting on Reddit on their behalf with permission).

Paging u/EchoesPartOne to put this doc in the Megathread (Kat has already given their blessing and replaced their old albums with in the MHGH pins with this one).
