I was watching a quick car maintenance video and the presenter mentioned needing a torque wrench for lug nuts. I have never used one and I am feeling a bit silly about it. From what I gathered it measures how tightly you turn a bolt, but I am not sure why that matters so much or how you even read the numbers on it. Is it something most people own or only folks who do their own repairs? If you have used one, could you explain it in simple terms, like what happens if you skip it or over-tighten by hand?
