Flying ZIPAIR with omitted middle name + merged compound last name will this cause boarding issues?

Hey everyone,

Looking for some real-world experience or advice from anyone who has flown ZIPAIR recently.

This will be my 3rd trip to Japan. I have always booked my trips through third-party travel agencies (my previous two flights were on Air Canada and Singapore Airlines), I think the first time I did my credit card portal and the last 2 were trip.com and I never had a single issue with name formatting or making updates until now.

For this upcoming flight on ZIPAIR, my ticket details are formatted differently than my passport:

  • Passport: First Name | Middle Name | Two-Word Last Name (e.g., Word1 Word2)
  • Ticket / Booking: First Name | Merged Last Name (e.g., Word1Word2)

Basically, two things happened:

  1. My middle name was omitted completely.
  2. The space in my two-word last name was collapsed into a single word by the reservation system.

What I’ve been told so far:

  • The third-party agency refuses to make any updates, insisting that missing middle names are optional/standard and that airline booking systems automatically collapse spaces in surnames without issue.
  • ZIPAIR customer support replied via email stating: "adding a middle name is optional and will not affect your travel, provided that the first name and last name on the booking match the passenger's passport." However, they also still "strongly recommend matching the passport exactly", which is making me nervous.

Because ZIPAIR is a low-cost carrier and can be strict at check-in, I’m worried about running into issues with a counter agent either at departure in Houston or Tokyo Narita.

What is the compensation ceiling for a dev job in japan?

For example, what's realistic for a hybrid or remote role with 10 years of experience in Platform Engineering, specialized in highly regulated environments with a focus on Cloud, DevOps and SRE and more recently in Data, ML and AI Platform. I know US salaries aren't that common in Japan due to the weak yen, but wondering how close it can get?

Does anyone use CachyOS with Gnome?

Long time Ubuntu and Fedora user here looking to try cachy os for better performance and hardware support. My understanding is that CachyOS defaults to KDE plasma, but you can pick other environments... is anyone using Gnome with it? Are any benefits lost with going with an alternative DE in terms of performance? I really like gnome and don't necessarily want do any customization. Outside of DE how's cachyos compared to let's say Ubuntu or Fedora, in terms of stability, package management etc

Genuine question.. why do you use KDE and not Gnome?

I've been a gnome daily user for years (across several distros but mostly Fedora and Ubuntu), never had an interest in KDE until.now... so for those of you that chose KDE over Gnome, why? Was it performance, workflow preferences or something else? Would you say it's worth it to try as a mostly mac os daily driver for work (that only uses Linux on the side on my personal computer since windows feel so different and the as a dev a unix lile terminal is so much nicer)

I'm toying with the idea of going to CachyOS and maybe testing the waters with KDE plasma as well (since it's the default one to experience "cachyos' in the most vanilla way possible). I work with MacOS everyday all day for work as a software engineer and that's why I like Gnome on my non work computer the change doesn't seem so harsh or painful... my hestiation with KDE is that is going to feel like windows.. but I could be totally wrong

How's this year's NJPW G1 vs Stardom 5 star GP?

For those of you who watch both promotions, what have you thought so far? Which one has been more exciting and memorable?

Is local AI worth it on a 16gb Ram Laptop Ryzen 5 with integrated graphics?

I have an old laptop laying around (HP envy 360 circa 2020) and I'm interested of giving it a second life as a linux server (mostly to deepen my knowledge) a constant use case is ai usage for me. I get claude unlimited and uncapped at work "for free" but at home I'm "limited to my antigravity subscription and whatever I can get for free with opencode (mostly the new deepseek v4 flash) main use case is coding and swe related task so not sure if small models would be "smart enough"... I guess I tend to compare everything to opus 5 or 4.8 since that's what I run constantly at work 8 hours a day.

How are you guys using hermes

I'm a daily opencode and claude code user (for home and work respectively). Not sure if it matters but when it comes to my AI access and use patterns I use Claude Code every day for pretty much every work task to streamline the process and be more efficient (very lucky ti have completely unlimited uncapped claude code usage at work). At home I mostly stick to opencode with deepseek v4 flash or mimo 2.5 both free via opencode zen... have also dabbled in others like antigravity etc.

I work as a Data and AI engineer for a health care data company and build small side projects at home when I want something that doesn't exist, or when I want to tweak with my Linux OS (one of the most fun uses of opencode for me). I have business aspirations haha (I previously ran my tech consulting gig but quit because it was much more draining than a 9 to 5 for the similar income). I'd like to continue some sort of side hustle wether that's tech consulting or saas or content creation or anything else than can generate some good side income that can more or less be passive (for reference I already have a semi passive thing outside of my day job as adjunct college professor "more or less more like a glorified grader which I run on autopilot with a few AI workflows a week"). Maybe hoping Hermes would be helpful for something like that but maybe overall just curious to see how others are using hermes and whether it has genuinely offloaded some real use cases in your life (ideally also significantly improving your life or making you side income etc)

Genuine question, why paying for deepseek v4 flash via API when it's free via opencode zen?

Is there any advantages over the direct api consumption? If I just need it for coding is the the zen model not as good? While we are at it why opencode go when opencode zen is free? Maybe I haven't used it sufficiently but it feels unlimited

Should AEW do a significantly better job promoting NJPW's US shows

Forbidden Door is almost sold out in San Jose, whereas NJPW's night one of the G1 is only halfway full. Whether you're primarily an AEW fan that enjoys the NJPW crossover or viceversa, I think is fair to admit that this one of the aspects of their partnership that feels off, like why isn't AEW trying to promote the G1 in Chicago much more? I get that NJPW benefits heavily from the gate etc at forbidden door but I feel like it should be a must in their partnership for AEW to be promoting NJPW's US shoes just as much as their own (since it's only one or a few a year and they're not taking away from their fans but maybe adding even more) what do you guys think?
