When did you start gaining weight after diagnosis?
Been on the verge of too skinny for years, and dropped down to definitely-too-skinny some time ago… adrenal crisied it a couple months ago and hoping that the treatment will help me gain some weight. what was it like for you all? I know many feel like meds made you gain too much weight.
Getting the runt of the litter…
My family is getting a Yorkie pup — and he’s already waaaaay tinier than his other siblings. He seemed energetic when my fam went up to meet him some weeks ago, but not so much in recent videos. He’s adorable, but should we be worried about getting the runt? I might be scrutinizing it too much and I don’t have any decision-making power in this, and don’t want to be a downer if we shouldn’t be too concerned. So would love some thoughts from you guys!
What is written on your medical alert bracelets?
There is only so much info you can squeeze into a few lines of limited characters. For example, I feel like emphasizing something specific like “100 mg IV / IM hydrocortisone” would be important, rather than just having it say something like “steroid dependent.“ And maybe writing “adrenal crisis” instead of “adrenal insufficiency“ while also writing “addison’s.” Thoughts on this and what else to include?
EDIT: newly diagnosed from crisis
Tell me your ER stories
Recently diagnosed through a crisis. I feel really lucky that the doctors realized what might be happening and treated me accordingly, even before running the tests that eventually diagnosed me.
Now I’m afraid of what it will mean to go into crisis again in a different place, as I can understand I might not be believed at an ER.
What are your own ER experiences like?
So… how does two daily doses work?
I’m new to all this, but… when you take a dose twice a day — and hydrocortisone lasts for 4-6 hours, won’t there be a large gap in the afternoon? Taking it at 8am lasts until 12-14, and then you have like 4 hours before taking it again at like 6… How come some people (myself included) only take a dose in the morning and the evening?
Help — my pulse is quick
Diagnosed super recently. On lowest daily dose. I have limited information still.
My pulse has been quick the past two hours or so as I‘m in bad getting ready to sleep. Afraid of going to sleep like that, don’t know what to do.
EDIT: drank more water, updosed 5mg and slept and felt fine the next day.
Palestinian/Syrian cookbooks for chefs
I want to gift a cookbook to a foodie couple (one of them is a personal chef) with recipes from Palestine or Syria. I would prioritize recipes that are delicious, and it’s fine for them to be challenging or time-consuming with less common authentic ingredients over just accessible ones.
Palestinian cookbooks have become quite popular recently and are important narrative wise, while Syrian food generally has a special place in the Arab world and the food is seen as being less impacted by western colonization (sorry, Lebanon).
They simply love cooking and I want to give them the option of adding Arab/Levantine cuisine to their repertoire.
Is anyone just… doing great?
Scrolling through this sub seems a bit depressing in terms of outlook… any positive stories of how people are actually doing great and living their best lives and so on?
EDIT: thank you all for sharing your experiences with me
