Anyone else's chi play weird games?

So a disclaimer, my girl is 8 and I have only had her for 2.5 months. She belonged to an old lady who couldn't take care of her anymore due to disability + dementia, so I know little about her history.

In the last weeks, she started opening up more and more, and with that has come "play". Or attempts, at least. It's as if she wants to play, but never quite learned how to. She absolutely hates any other dog, so I'm thinking she has had no exposure to a dog teaching her how to play properly. And from my understanding, her owner wasn't capable of walking her for the last 6 years at least, so I dont think much play was involved there.

She doesn't want to be picked up, she wants me to put my hand on the floor and then steps over my hand so I can lift her up. After eating her breakfast or dinner, she will wait for me to put my hand down to let her on the bed and then start running like crazy between my hand and the bed. Never quite reaching my hand, last second turning around.

Yet when I try to engage in the play, by moving my hand, or making sounds, or using a toy, she never engages back and doesn't respond to it. She's just in her own little world, doing her own little thing, without understanding that I am trying to play with her. Having a great time though, I'll give her that.

Same as outside. She thinks the throwing movement is quite exciting but she doesn't connect throwing, with something actually landing somewhere, and also doesn't understand that when something lands she can go towards it. She only understands the concept vaguely when it hits her. At the beach we discovered she likes it when we throw small sea shells at her. When it hits her she gets all wild and starts running. But she then shows no interest in the shell, just the fact that she got hit by it.

When I pick up a stick she gets a bit excited but when I throw it she doesn't seem to understand that it was the stick im holding.

Maybe shes just stupid lmao. Possibility.

Anyway, I have a lot of experience with dogs, but this is new for me and it makes me so excited when I figure out one of the ways I can make her get playful. Do any of your chi's do weird play things? Maybe I can use some of those tactics to see what else triggers mine.
