I'm curious to hear from the community about some things that make you raise an eyebrow regarding the consensus that's developed around SynthV and vocal synths.

I'll start with two of mine:

1. I prefer natural vocals (SynthV HXVOC, Moca, etc.) over synthetic-sounding ones (Vocaloid Miku, etc.). We had synthetic voicebanks for a *while* and they never quite fit the music I wanted to make. Now I finally can.
2. I don't like accents in vocal synths! I avoid making HXVOC sing in Japanese or Moca sing in Spanish, though I get why others like it or don't mind it. Cross-language synthesis is genuinely impressive tech, even if it's not what I like for me. Comes from wanting to sound like a native in any language I learn, I guess!

I want this to be a safe, chill space where people don't have to hold back opinions they'd be scared to voice elsewhere. Respect each other's differences, please.

What are yours? Any particular reason behind them? Or maybe you've heard some wild ones that aren't yours?

A bit of an involved situation which I am confused about. I am a foreigner/non-citizen on a student visa with a Werkstudent position, and I am over 30 years old. When I turned 30, GKV kicked me off the Student plan (understandable, that's the policy) and I switched to freiwillig versichert. Then I got a job and had to pay more because I went over the limit of the minimum income. Normally when you're employed full-time, you pay directly/automatically from your paycheck for the KV, but I'm still confused if that also applies to Werkstudent positions or not?

Summary:

• non-citizen
• over 30
• Werkstudent job / Masters study
• paying for GKV out of pocket

Question:

• Am I paying double for my GKV (triple if you count the Arbeitgeber part) by having it deducted from my pay and also transferring the money?

Basically the title is the question, but I saw a bunch of servers focused on a specific voicebank (Eleanor Forte, Teto, etc.), and I wanted to connect with people who like HXVOC and music made with him.

If there isn't one... should I even be considering making one? Is there any interest in coming together united by love for our edgy boy?

If there's a subreddit, I'd like to know about it, too!

has anyone around here used Synthesizer V (2?) when composing and producing music that goes beyond the standard 12 notes? how was the experience? do you have any works uploaded? how did you make the voice sing "in-between pitches"? or did you avoid it?
