Spent Father’s Day painting wands with my kid
I’ve had these carved but not finished wands on a shelf in the garage for over a year. Decided to finally paint them. See if you can guess which one was painted by my sub-ten year old.
Going left to right:
EDIT: The one photos are actually uploaded left to right it seems.
The first wand is plum wood heavily coated in an iridescent “Unicorn Milk” with glow in the dark pink hearts painted in various places.
The next wand is plum wood with a little start sky teardrop painted insert using yellow glow in the dark paint for the stars. There’s also a subtle dot of glowing yellow in the tip.
Next is a unicorn horn inspired plum wood wand with the shinny same “Unicorn Milk” coating more evenly applied.
Next is my “worm and eye” wand design, also made of plum wood. The sickly green parts are glow in the dark.
The next wand is made from an old growth lilac branch and is such a nice bit of weird wood grain I’ve left it unpainted.
Lastly the jagged black wand is plum wood coated in Black 3.0. The glossy clear coat on top of that gives it an almost volcanic glass look and I’m debating trying to enhance that more with some subtle white/silver along the edges or leave is a glossy shard of darkness.
All the wands still need to have hair inserted into the handle and then the heavy brass screw “cap” added to give them the proper center of gravity.
I have some fluff from our cat / “House sphinx” or maybe our dog named Luna / “Moon Hound” to use for those “wand cores”.
