Spent Father’s Day painting wands with my kid

I’ve had these carved but not finished wands on a shelf in the garage for over a year. Decided to finally paint them. See if you can guess which one was painted by my sub-ten year old.

Going left to right:

EDIT: The one photos are actually uploaded left to right it seems.

The first wand is plum wood heavily coated in an iridescent “Unicorn Milk” with glow in the dark pink hearts painted in various places.

The next wand is plum wood with a little start sky teardrop painted insert using yellow glow in the dark paint for the stars. There’s also a subtle dot of glowing yellow in the tip.

Next is a unicorn horn inspired plum wood wand with the shinny same “Unicorn Milk” coating more evenly applied.

Next is my “worm and eye” wand design, also made of plum wood. The sickly green parts are glow in the dark.

The next wand is made from an old growth lilac branch and is such a nice bit of weird wood grain I’ve left it unpainted.

Lastly the jagged black wand is plum wood coated in Black 3.0. The glossy clear coat on top of that gives it an almost volcanic glass look and I’m debating trying to enhance that more with some subtle white/silver along the edges or leave is a glossy shard of darkness.

All the wands still need to have hair inserted into the handle and then the heavy brass screw “cap” added to give them the proper center of gravity.

I have some fluff from our cat / “House sphinx” or maybe our dog named Luna / “Moon Hound” to use for those “wand cores”.

Wanted: Registered Credit Sticks

I was thinking about how to more easily take credits across universes in the quantum chest.

What if you could go to GalBank and use a terminal to convert standard credits into registered credit sticks in set large amounts? Give them a different color from standard ones. “Buy” them in 10k, 100k, and 1M values. Weightless, throw whatever combination you make into the quantum chest, then in your new universe haul them off to GalBank to cash out.

And why not insert them into the loot tables too! Find a 10k registered credit sticks to go cash in at GalBank or sell for pennies on the dollar at any other merchant.

Wish there was a Starborn modular gun

Unless there’s some lore reason the Unity gives you an armed ship but no personal weapons, I find it weird you start each NG+ unarmed until you buy, find, or get to a quantum stashed gun. The Starborn powers don’t really cut it at least in early NG+.

My opinion is that the game should have a configurable Starborn gun and a Starborn styled weapon bench in the Starborn ship so you can reconfigure it at immediately.

By configurable I mean you should be able to make it take the general form factor and types to match your skills. Pistol vs rifle vs heavy weapon. Laser vs ballistic, etc. Pop it into a weapon bench and tweak it to your playstyle.

Let it swap between ballistic, laser, particle, and EM. Give these weapon modifications some techno babble names like “artificial matter payload.”

Have its limited ammo automatically recharge like the Fallout Recharger pistol or laser mining drill. No need to start with ammo out of the Unity and no reloading.

Make the weapon format configurable between pistol and riffle. Add in a bulkier rifle shape for heavy weapon and variations implying different other features: Have these form factor changes handle semi-auto, automatic, explosive, and shotgun styles across pistol and rifle formats.

Between those two options it should be possible to make the weapon match most gun skills.

These basic configuration options have no requirements or costs. But the weapon should have various standard upgrades tied to skills. More ammo, more damage, more accurate, various scopes/sights, etc.

Its effectiveness wouldn’t be top tier. You’d have reason to acquire dedicated ammo using guns, but it would be viable for early adventures and fit the Starborn aesthetic.

Also, make a non-player version that gets added to the Starborn weapon lists so some Starborn foes use it, but like their armor you can’t loot it.
