Went to the Appaloosa Grill downtown last night had a fairly mediocre and already somewhat overpriced group of appetizers. Time came to pay the bill and our server had to explain there was already a 20% surcharge on the tab that went to all the employees and then if we wanted to give any more tip, then that would go directly to him. I just think it’s a terrible position to put the server in because it makes the customer feel like they’re being taken advantage of both with the mandatory surcharge and then to have a server begging for tips on top of that it’s not good for anyone. It definitely made me want to avoid that restaurant in the future.

I was at the Austin show. I thought it was really good. The stage setup was telling. The band was all in the shadows, including Ryan, with backlights and a central spot where the spotlight was on… no one.

Does anyone recall that? Was he trying to let the music do the talking?
