trying to narrow it down… thanks guys!

My drawings never look like my reference pics. Something seems to be going wrong between my block-in phase and refining.
Every shape is always wonky or too small or too big...

For example, the woman’s side profile in the top left of the 2nd pic are drawn from the same reference but managed to look completely different.

How do I specifically target getting better at copying down the right proportions?
Should I learn anatomy in more detail first (looking at the skull, tissues, and fat distribution… etc) or should I practice more blocking-in in from bargue plates and other images? Or, is there something else that helps you guys out?

P.S. I normally draw in pencil, not in pen like in the images.
I didnt include my references because I’m looking for advice on the learning process in general + pointers on what to research and learn next, rather than specified advice on what to tweak about a specific drawing. ☺️ Pics of drawings just here to show what I’m up to and what sort of style I’m trying to improve at.

Wigs for 1/8 BJD dolls fit perfectly on the monchhichi keychains. I first gave the doll wig a trim, then dipped it in boiling water to let the hair set lush against her scalp.

I’ve been carrying mine in my palm like a little stress relieve squish for a few years, then just now decided it’d feel better weighted.

First, I removed the plastic pellets from his insides and replaced it with 259pcs of 4mm stainless steel shot (3rd pic). Then, I simply stuffed the little pouch back inside him and sewed it shut (2nd pic).

When I was researching before doing this, I couldn’t find anything about customising/deconstructing monchhichi keychains, so I thought I might share my own for anyone who’s thinking of doing the same :-)
